FYI, OP @marty2756 is no longer experiencing the “package transfer to new storage is in progress” error.
I helped him resolve it via private message by editing the usercfg.opt file.
Hi @TenPatrol, perhaps you could help me also. I have empty Community folder so it shouldn’t take long to switch over my Community location but after restarting the sim, I get the same message telling me to restart the sim. I took a screenshot for better understanding. Thanks for any help you can give.
Hey thanks @MSFSRonS, I didn’t realize that. That will be of help in the future. I hate to sound too ignorant, but what is the process if I want to DM someone? I presume that DM is Direct Message?
Use add-on linker from flightsim.to. No need to have a custom Community Folder. Use the default one. Put your add-ons on any drive you like or even split them up over multiple drives. Makes sorting out add on conflicts easier as well. There is no reason not to use it.
Thanks @Wilem35, I have always used Addon Linker for MSFS2020, but never got around to setting it up for 2024. I believe that I probably have to get my Community folder issue straightened out in My Library before Addon Linker will work for 2024. Not sure. Thanks for the help.
@MSFSRonS, Thanks for the help. TenPatrol put me on the right path to fixing my community folder issue. I had to go into my user.cfg all the way to the bottom and change the instructions for FS2024. It now looks like this:
InstalledPackagesPath “H:\FS24Community”
InstalledPackagesPathNextBoot "’
Just replace the path with where you want your community folder to be.
Some time ago, in one of the forum threads, I explained how the last two lines of the Usercfg.opt file should look. As for the very last line, there should be no characters between the quotation marks. It also shouldn’t contain a path to the Community folder or to the folder that contains the Community folder.
So, if anyone keeps getting the “Packages transfer to new storage is in progress” error, make sure to close MSFS 2024 and check your UserCfg.opt file.
For example, if your Community folder is located on drive D in the MSFS 2024 folder, then the last two lines should look like this:
UserCfg.opt - Last line of the file
InstalledPackagesPath “C:\Users\myuserid\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Limitless_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Packages”
In this case, the file is a Symbolic Link to the physical file.
Actual physical location of the Community file.
K:\WpSystem\S-1-5-21-2997017442-1106904157-1831008082-1001\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Limitless_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Packages\Community
With File Explorer, you can still access and edit, with Notepad, the file using
the C: address.
I changed the UserCfg.opt file to:
InstalledPackagesPath “K:\FS2024”
FS2024 then installed a new empty Community folder there.
While my original Community folder stayed at the K:\WpSystem... location.
So, it seems like FS2024 has changed where the Community folder is initially installed.
So, I changed the UserCfg.opt file back to the Symbolic link. “C:\Users\myuserid\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Limitless_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Packages”.
