a question to developers should the community folder be emptied prior to updating
It is not necessary since it is empty in the default installation. But, as a matter of personal preference, I always keep a backup just in case something goes wrong.
However, if you are reinstalling due to issues with the sim, make sure you have ruled out one of the mods in that folder first. Just sayin…
