Connection Issues, or Account entitlement?

Launched the Sim (via Steam) for the first time in a while today and it had forgotten my Microsoft account information. Whatever account I try, the same Connection Error occurs and then it signs me out again. I even tried a brand new account.

I tried these two KB articles, with no luck.

Is this just me, or is there a Steam/MS issue?
How do I check which MS account has entitlement? I couldn’t see anything when logging into xbox.com. If I have the game on Steam, does it matter?

Here is one that may help:

I dont think thats relevant. I tried clearing the Steam cache anyway, but it didnt work.

I can sign in to all the accounts in a browser and in the game, but i dont know which (if any) is the right one to use, or if there is another problem causing me to be signed out as soon as I sign in.

I suppose the question I might need to be asking is “Can I use a new Microsoft account with my Steam copy of the game?”

While I’d rather not lose all my progress, if I cant play, the progress is pointless.

The answer to that, unfortunately, is no you cannot.
They are independent platforms, and one will not work with the other.
If you purchased it through Steam, you must install and log in through through Steam.
Likewise with the MSStore.
The same applies to MSFS products purchased through Steam or the MSFS Marketplace.

Are you saying the MS account you use in the first instance is the only one that can be linked to Steam? Im not sure. I think I may have used more than one before.

Regardless, I think I have identified the correct account (the one I used most recently), but its still having the same issues as the rest of them, including a new one I created just to test.

Ive been on to MS support and they confirm they cant see the entitlement on that MS account, but I can see I’ve used that account with Flight Sim before in the activity log. They’ve told me to raise it with Steam

I think I might get bounced around a bit here.

Not necessarily, but since you purchased the sim through Steam, the one you use to log in to MSFS is through Steam.

If you have a Microsoft Store account, you cannot use the login for the Microsoft Store with MSFS, since your MSFS was purchased through Steam.
They are not interchangable.
If you are having issues, you will indeed need to contact Steam, as Microsoft would have no record of your purchase, since you didn’t buy it through Microsoft.

Im not entirely sure how it works, which is probably why I cant figure out where the problem is.

When you launch the game via Steam, it just launches the launcher, which then proceeds to require you to login with a Microsoft account before it will even download the content. Its this point I’m stuck at as any account I try to use, kicks me out.

Its almost as if, my MS account has lost its entitlement, or Steam is no longer telling the game I have the entitlement for when I do login.

Steam are telling me to goto Microsoft/xbox
FSim support are also telling me its a MS issue
Microsoft are saying its a Steam issue

Just check here as I can see your account, it looks like it is connected through the MS Store - have you tried to see if you can launch the MS Store or Xbox App to play?

Hi Jummivana

Thanks for coming back to me.

Yes, Ive tried the MS store (updated windows, signed in to Xboxlive etc). None of my previously used accounts, work anymore.

Ive raised three tickets with you guys so far, all about the same issue. I hope you can see them as I’ve added lots of details so far.

Regards

Bman

SOLVED!

I have found the issue. I had a non default Cypher Suite order specified. Setting this back to default, resolved the problem.

It appears something changed between October and December which caused my custom ordering to become incompatible with the way Flight Simulator connects after authentication.

I wouldn’t recommend touching these settings unless you are having the exact problem I described and even then, I would probably suggest using a program such as IISCrypto to change them, unless you are familiar with editing the registry.

Edit: Thanks to the Flightsimulator.zendesk team for sticking with me on this.
