"console" window opening with msfs

Just wondering if anyone has a “fix” to stop the white box “console” window form opening every time I boot the sim?

same thing as these two posts, but no solution has ever been posted

Still console window - Discussion Hub / General Discussion - Microsoft Flight Simulator Forums

“Console” Screen Always Opens? - Discussion Hub / General Discussion - Microsoft Flight Simulator Forums

This is not the dev mode console, it’s a different window which has 2 tabs at the bottom, “messages” and “scripts” I think…both are blank. If I manually close the window, the sim closes with it.

The sim “appears” to be operating fine otherwise, but obviously, this box is not meant to be there, so I’d like to know of a way to stop it from launching with the sim.

Any ideas?

Pinging you in to see if you ever found the cause/a solution?

Hi @GlennyPlays

Can you please show a screenshot of what you see? I think it’s from DevMode!

Cheers! :airplane:

I haven’t got one to hand, as I’m not at home right now…but it’s exactly the same as in this post

It’s not the dev console, as it’s within the normal msfs window, not a separate window, and also the dev console is black/blue if i remember rightly…this one is a bright white window.

Nope, that isn’t the dev console. Never seen that before, I’ll so some research and get back to you!

Cheers!

I’m literally having the EXACT same issue. Wasn’t happening before, but I just did a rebuild of my OS and sim in it’s entirety, and now this is what I get.

I actually tried validating files on steam to see if that would fix it…half a day later (msfs servers seem to limit speed a lot) and it was still there.

very odd. I’ve only seen a handful of posts about this issue, and never any solution.

out of curiosity…what does your setup look like? I’m trying to work out if there’s a link between this issue and certain peripherals, or certain monitor setups for example?

I’m now running triple screens, full logitech setup (yoke, extra throttle, rudders, saitek trim, 5 FIPs, radio, multi, switch panels), a couple of garmin g1000 units from etsy (which count as 2 additional monitors in windows, so 5 total), and a wind sim kit for g-force effect. Software wise, it’s the steam version of the sim, plus littlenavconnect, dynamiclod reset edition, software for the g1000’s, simracingstudio (for the windkit), airmanager, and a short script before the sim to check that all usb devices are set to untick the “allow the computer to disable this device to save power” option. I think that’s everything.

I’ve seen something similar to this a year or two ago. If you disabled dev. mode from the dev. mode top window, then restart the sim, dev. mode reloads including any windows you had open at the time. I had to disable dev. mode from the Developers option menu to get it to stay closed.

As I say this was many SU’s ago so that bug may have already been fixed, but the OP does make me think this could be the same issue.

thank you for the reply. unfortunately, my dev mode is already disabled, but this console window is being displayed.

did you installed add-on ? have you checked if there in no extra line in the EXE.xml that may request this box ? I would give a try removing it (keep it safe on your deskop)

Can we get a screen dump of what you are seeing? Not just the MSFS window, but the whole screen.

It’s possible you might need to enable dev. mode. Close down all windows, then disable dev. mode to get rid of it, buts it’s just guesswork till we can see what you are seeing.

I’ll try and post a screenshot tomorrow…I’m at work right now though…but in essence, it’s exactly the same as the post I referenced above. exact same white console box.

only add on’s I have are popular things like airmanager, dynamicLOD, littlenavmap etc…in terms of actual in sim add on content, I have never installed anything outside of the sim…only ever bought things direct from the in sim marketplace and install them form there. The things I have installed form the marketplace are the free content like world updates etc…some realism add ons, like the zinnertek realistic runways, an add on for realistic runway lights, realistic plane lights, localised traffic, stuff like that…it’s all in sim marketplace add ons though…I’ll try and make a full list tomorrow when I’m off work.

many of those mods require being sync with sim, personnally I suspect one launching this console kinda like FSTL does work (black command window running at sim launch)

and it s definitely not the same console than the dev mod one, is there any data that came written in this console window meanwhile the sim s running ?
really insist in the fact it may be fine to try with a vanilla sim (empty community folder at least) and with a clean EXE.xml filer (located to C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Flight Simulator for a steam install)

I would be curious to see if there is no other launch option from the main executable involved (located in SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\MicrosoftFlightSimulator folder) right click and properties

thanks for your reply…I will look at this tomorrow for sure…hopefully you are right and there is some extra data in the XML which is causing this.

I’m just a bit surprised though if it’s anything to do with the add on programs I use…because it’s not like I’m using any small, never heard of software (with the exception of the g1000 simconnect software, but I have had this console window issue since before I even got those)…it’s all very popular stuff like airmanager, littlenavmap etc…granted, DynamicLOD seems to have only become popular fairly recently…but still…I’d have expected MANY more people reporting this issue if it were down to any of the programs I use.

I mean, having the window open doesn’t appear to have any detrimental effect to the running of the sim. No messages ever appear in the window either. It just opens and sits there until I close the sim, then it closes.

I’ll hopefully get some time tomorrow to check out all the suggestions though and see if we can figure out what’s causing it.

Thanks again for all the replies.

maybe could it be worth it opening a ticket on zendesk, .
I m scanning fsdeveloper.com to see if they have some a acknowledge, but can’t find anything very probant there …
saw this thread Console window? - Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020) - The AVSIM Community but doesn’t bring real solution, just the hope to get it fix in some way

have a nice night ! the night brings solutions

oh if you are going to watch over devmode, probably should you first try with this “reset setting” than switching setting in a random way

ok, so here are the screen grabs,I can’t see anything obvious, but then I don’t really know what I’m looking for.

main program.exe doesn’t have anything ticket in compatibility mode.

only thing in the exe.xml is the logitech plugin, I think.

even with no other programs running, and an empty community folder, the same console window app

ears.

one thing I have now noticed…

if I switch from DX11 to DX12…reboot the sim…the first time, the console window does not show. reboot the sim and every subsequent time, the console window is back.

Fyi, i did report to zendesk. Initially they just said they need more time to investigate. After a while i just got told they could not get a resolution from the dev team and that i should do a clean install (despite telling them that I’d already done this).

Im now resigned to the fact that, unless i want to change from dx12 to dx11 or dx11 to dx12 every session… that console window will appear.

oh sorry just noticed this post  have you tried cuting / pasting the exe.xml on your desktop to see if running the sim without it issue persist ? bring it back after few attempt if you notice no change

or I would try removing the -r in commandline

been searching briefly on google

" What is the R command line?

R is an interpreted programming language. This means that R will interpret each line of code as it is entered and, if it is valid, R will execute it, returning the result in the command console."

been searching in the msfs’s sdk website, can’t find any section related to the EXE.xml nor those launching argument
