"console" window opening with msfs

That’s really odd. It’s no dev. mode console window I’ve ever seen. It’s the wrong colour, and has no title bar that I can see.
Do those windows appear in the task manager?

Thank you. I will test this later today.

Ok, so removing the -r from the command line didn’t stop the window, but did stop my logitech fip’s from loading up.

Removing the exe.xml completely also didn’t stop the window, but did stop my logitech fip’s from loading up.

In task manager it shows FlightSimulator.exe, and then as a subset of that it shows Console and Microsoft Flight Simulator - 1.36.2.0

As i said, it doesn’t seem to affect the running of the sim at all. Isn’t causing any fps loss or crashes so far as i can tell (i have had quite a few issues lately, but they were related to various other pieces of hardware i was connecting… namely, trying to get 3x4k screens in conjunction with 2xg1000 screens, 2x1080p touch screens and a couple of logitech fips. Ive overcome all those issues by dropping the touch screens, actually adding more fips (7 right now, with a plan for 2 more), using my tablet pc for little navmap… connecting the fips to 4 x 4 port hubs (max 2 per hub) and everything else (plus 1 fip) connected to a 12V7.5A 16 port hub.

Got everything working perfectly now, with the exception of this random console window… it’s not a huge deal, as everything works fine… it’s just weird that it shows up though. It’s something that ive only seen mentioned in a handful of posts across many years, never with a solution… it seems like once you get this window, you just get used to it being there and that’s it.

Oh my gosh!

I think I’ve solved it!

It’s Nvidia surround.

As soon as i disable surround and switch to 3 separate monitors, the console window no longer opens.

I’m gonna have to test flying this way at the weekend, make sure it doesn’t have any other issues this way… but with nvidia surround disabled… no more console window.

Great to hear !, I have marked your post as the solution and hope your further testing will confirm that.

wow amazing setup, glad to hear you may have found what was making this console showing up ! if that is it, it’s should be enough to reassure you
I will keep my finger crossed :crossed_fingers: that is just a nvidia stuff and hope no down side will appear.
I would like to try on my end to see and confirm but this option is greyed probably cause I use only 1 monitor.

Uuurgh… since going triple monitor without surround though, I’m now getting random disconnects on usb devices again.

I don’t understand why that would make a difference… but it seems to have.

Now im back to the drawing board in terms of getting everything working lol

Switched back to nvidia surround and touch wood, everything is working again so far… also getting much smoother takeoff with surround using 3 views in windowed mode than i was without surround and 3 fullscreen views.

I always thought fullscreen should give better performance?

Oh well, for now everything is working again at least…i can live with the console window if it means everything works lol

Now that you are back with nvidia surround, did the console showed up again ?

Initially, no… but after a reboot, it’s back.

Did a couple of reboots without surround and it never came back, so I’m convinced it’s something to do with surround.

At least everything seems to be working again though.

Maybe something to report to Nvidia.

Yeah, possibly… although… now that i have things working again, i kinda hope they don’t touch anything haha. Getting all this setup stable has been no easy task

Just one final update… it turned out that the performance issues and disconnects i was having when i switched to non surround mode were likely caused by 2 dodgy usb cables connecting up my g1000 units… I’ve unplugged one and connected one with a spare cable i had… gone to non surround mode, full screen for all 3 views… flown half way from Gatwick to Glasgow… no issues, and no console window.

So in summary… the console window seems to be linked to using nvidia surround… it doesn’t actually cause any problems, but the way to stop it from appearing is to disable nvidia surround, and instead use 3 separate fill screen views from the experimental settings section, with windows treating each screen as a separate 4k display, rather than one huge 11520x2190 display.
