Constant update cycle…please help!

Hi all,

I am running the sim, premium deluxe, on pc from the Microsoft store.

I had real trouble updating to number 8 and had to delete the c152 aircraft for the update to work.

However since then, every time I open the sim it requires me to do a 1.28gb update. Once I’ve done this I can fly but as soon as I close the sim and then reopen it I have to do the update again.

This has happened 4 times since I got home from work this evening and if I can’t solve it then I’m going to go mad!

Can any of you lovely people stop a middle-aged man from going bang?

It looks like there’s a few protection in place in your folders that prevent the sim to permanently update the app. Can you please check your MSFS installation folder and make sure everything is NOT set to Read-Only?

I’ll check this the morning, pretty sure it’s not the case as I think I unlocked all of that just recently

Also, why do you need to delete the c152 aircraft? And did you delete them from the folder directly, or did you uninstall it using the Content Manager?

Also make sure you’re not installing to another drive or folder, then using an icon that doesn’t point to that. I got into that loop last year and it was really frustrating. Also, I could be wrong but I think the 152 is used in training, so you can’t delete it (it would constantly prompt you to reinstall).

I’d given him the advice.

During his update process the update would hang or crash on the 152 patch installation.

I had him delete the 152 folders and that got the SU8 update process to reinstall them and allowed the whole thing to complete.

It’s unclear if this has/had any bearing on what is going on now.

In that case, it’s probably better to remove the 152 content from the content manager first. Because it looks like there’s some inconsistencies due to the deletion process. At least once it updates for the last time, OP can just remove the Cessna 152 from the content manager, and see if that allows them to exit the sim and open it again. If it works, then they can go back to the content manager and reinstall the Cessna 152.

I personally remove all aircraft that I won’t be using, and since I only fly exclusively on the A320, I only keep 1 aircraft installed. Hahah.

Hi all,

Well I made sure everything was not set to read only, did the update of 1.28gb again this morning. Just got back from the dreaded school run and thought I’d check it before my first work meeting.

Nope, 1.28gb install is there again!!!

I ran it as administrator, did a restart etc etc and nothing.

The download makes no reference to the c152, believe me, I’ve watched every file 6 times now.

Am I at the point where the only option is a full reinstall?

What anti virus do you have? Some download loops have been caused by that, so maybe try turning it off momentarily

windows defender

Unlikely then, but perhaps worth trying turning it off anyway if you have no other ideas!

Have you tried repairing the install?

where do i find the repair function, i purchased through the windows store

start - settings - apps and features -microsoft flight simulator (3 dots - advanced) - repair or reset

Nothing seems to work.

I eventually got back into the sim after another 1.28gb download, and then tried to download an aircraft update from content manager and that repeatedly failed.
Sadly I’ve had to bite the bullet and delete the whole sim and reinstall everything.
When it works, the sim in VR is incredible, but my goodness me my blood pressure must be through the roof thanks to Microsoft.

While people find lots of other things to complain about I very much enjoy the sim… one of my biggest complaints is indeed the whole launcher/updates/store issues dance rather than anything else.

Fingers crossed the full reinstall solves it for you otherwise I really fear for your blood pressure!

It’s a consistent issue through each of the update cycles the sim goes through. Some people have no problem at all with the process, others have a total mess to solve. The forum is filled with posts and threads about it.

In the Q&A yesterday, the question was posed about improving the system and the team would like to, but without throwing anyone under the bus, they reiterated that much of the install process is not theirs to manage. The system is Microsoft’s Store division to improve, unfortunately.

I’ve got both the PC and Xbox versions and even the normally rock solid, Xbox version screwed up on me this time and I had to reinstall all the Content Manager content from scratch.
