Controller Mapping randomly resets itself to default

This happens VERY frequently for me. It’s not just when I go into a new aircraft for the first time: it happens whenever I switch aircraft…and sometimes more frequently than that (it happened x3 during a single flight earlier today…and I obviously wasn’t changing aircraft mid-flight).

I’m on an Xbox series x with a TM TCA Airbus Captain’s pack and TM rudder pedals. I also play with a controller, mouse and keyboard. This happens on all the devices that I’ve customised the mappings for (i.e., not the controller or mouse as far as I’ve noticed). Not only will it revert back to the original default (rather than my chosen default) at seemingly random times, it has frequently forgot the mappings.

In addition to this errant and random remapping, MSFS appear to have some kind of fetish for messing with my rudder pedals and brakes. Specifically, it will randomly only let the rudder go in one direction. It’s not consistent and it sometimes limited to the left side and others stuck to the right. The brakes on the other hand just stop working…the mapping doesn’t appear to be lost/forgotten: they just stop working at random. This has caused many issues on take off and landing, obviously! And I no longer have confidence with the controls are set properly at any given moment. In other occasions I’ve had the stick just disable itself (which I’ve only discovered when it came time to rotate). This cause me to plough my owned plane into a forest of trees at the end of the runway.

I’ve spent x4 4-5 hour sessions of re-mapping the controls. It has already forgotten the mapping this afternoon. I will try doing it once more and if I have this happen again I will be returning the game, xbox and thrustmaster controls (which were all bought specifically for MSFS 2024 last week).

This has caused me untold trouble: I crashing my owned plane in career mode TWICE…leading to me spending hours fighting bugs just get myself out of debt…only for it to happen again. I’ve basically had zero fun playing this game, spent 90% of my intended gameplay time troubleshooting issues. It feels like a job more than anything fun at this point. I can’t even play the game on a very basic level.

Who in their right mind honestly thought releasing this as a good thing to do. I would honestly have preferred the launch was delayed by a year for the to get this right. As it stands, I’ve lost any passion, excitement or fun in the game…and I’m reconsidering whether I want to do any simming at all. The investment of time required for the most minimal amount of fun/gameplay is just too much. I mean…control settings reverting back to the original default what’s less of what is set to default by the user; come on, this is really basic functionality that profoundly impacts on the experience. These aren’t little issues. These are game-breakers. I honestly thought people were being ridiculous with the response during the first 72 hours of release but I was wrong. And to think this is what I’ve been waiting for the past 18 months.
