Kept having trouble with my headset going black for long periods. Noticed a break in the cable from a sharp bend near the headset. Decided to order a new cable. Found one on Amazon and ordered it. Cost about $130 with shipping. Will take two weeks to arrive on Maui as it shipped from Germany. Now for the bad news . . . I got to thinking since I am 85 years old and MSFS is my main pastime (I’m a widower), maybe I should invest in a new computer system to start to really enjoy it. So, back to Amazon and researched systems and found this:
Intel Core i9 14900KF 6.0 GHz Processor w/Liquid Cooling & 7 ARGB Fans
nVidia GeForce RTX 4090 24 GB
32 GB DDR5 6000 RAM
4TB Samsung 990 Pro M.2 SSD
2TB M.2 SSD
1000W Platinum Certified Power Supply
22 various USB Ports – 2.0., 3.0, 3.2 & USB C 3.1 and 3.2.
WiFi 6E, Bluetooth, 2.5GB LAN, Win 11 Home.
This set me back $3,499 with a $700 discount. It is due to arrive one day before the cable replacement. I plan to make this my last computer and I am just hoping it will give me good performance and maybe I can experience some Ultra settings! I am not simming presently because I tried it in 2D and just cannot figure out how I did it before I got the Reverb. Just isn’t fun! So I’ll wait for the new system and cable.
I totally agree with you, can’t go back to 2D.
You system should give you superb performance, enjoy! There is actually enough performance for a newer VR headset too instead of a new cable for the G2.
It’s gonna rock!
Also I wish you 100+ more upgrades, never say it’s your last PC

Which new headset would you recommend to replace a G2 ?
Here’s a good review of the Varjo Aero, Pimax Crystal, and Bigscreen Beyond.
My takeaways from the video:
Varjo recently announced a 50% price drop, now selling for around $1,400 (including two base stations.) Best build quality and great image quality, but a more limited vertical FOV. Has eye tracking.
The Crystal ($1,800) for best FOV and image quality. It’s big and bulky, though, and requires batteries, even when wired. Has eye tracking. Doesn’t need base stations.
The Beyond ($1,000) for comfort and the very best blacks, due to its micro-OLED panels. For night flying, it’s hands-down the best. No eye tracking, though.
There is a cheaper version of Pimax Crystal (Crystal Sim) without controllers - for the people who want it for simming only.
An update to my post: New computer arrived early on December 2nd and the G2 cable said it would arrive Dec. 5th. Got the new system set up and re-installed MSFS. This thing absolutely flies!! In pancake mode, I’m getting 110 fps in Seattle and 160 in the suburbs. I’m thrilled. Now the problem is today is Dec. 15th and still no cable! I can’t fly in pancake mode anymore, so basically no flights in the past month! When I try to track the cable shipment it just says “Delayed in transit”. Amazon said I can apply for a refund, but I want the cable!!
Cable arrived at last!! Now I have hooked the Reverb G2 up to my new system and am enjoying flying with almose everything on Ultra, DX12, DLSRR and it is just smooth as butter. HOWEVER, I seem to have introduced a new problem which I have never seen before. About every 30 seconds, there is a brilliant white flash in VR headset. It is annoying and I never had this before on my old system. I re-installed WMR and Open XR, but no difference. Any aircraft, any scenery, it doesn’t matter. Any ideas?
There was one option that potentially induced those flashes—I think it’s Bloom. Try disabling it.
Thought this one was fixed quite some ago, though…
I found switching back to DX11 stopped the flash for me.
Try turning off Bloom if using DX12.
Hi, it’s not your headset. I get the same flash on my Quest 2 when using DX12.
I don’t get the intermittent flash on DX11. I still run 12 but am putting up with the issue for the time being until I get time to do more testing. I haven’t tried the bloom suggestion, however, I prefer to have bloom enabled so may end up switching back to DX11 should I grow tired of the flashing.
Incidentally, not sure if it’s a placebo effect or whether it’s related, however, I could have sworn on one occasion I disabled all lights on my plane and that stopped the flashing. Not ideal obviously and I can’t say for certain whether it actually made a difference as I haven’t replicated it since but yeah, it may be something as simple as disabling your planes strobe light (or similar) when using DX12.
Cheers,
After several hours of fiddling with settings, switches and all, here is the result of my efforts: Found that Bloom was already turned off. Tried turning off all external lights, Nav, Strobe and Beacon. Tried different aircraft. Still had the “flash”. Then I switched from DX12 to DX11. Flew for about an hour without a single flash. However, I much prefer using DX12 and like DeltaFlyer44, I think I will just put up with it for now. I am using a brand-new sytem (specs at top of post), and I wonder if it is the RTX 4090 that is causing it?
I have the same intermittent flash with Reverb G2 and DX12 but it’s an orange flash in one eye.
Also it only happens when I’ve got Motion Reprojection turned on in WMR settings.
