Hi there! Yesterday I was flying in a early morning time with a beautiful sun on my left and, moving to see my right wing, I saw the shadows of the airplane frame but … Not the shadow of me! What about the possibility to create a shadow of the pilot linked to the VR headset position in the virtual cockpit? It seems not so complicated…half of the body is “blocked” but arms, head and bust movements can be easily represented, increasing the “immersion” feeling.
What do you think? All the best!
Sounds like ray tracing is needed here.
I think they can do it but for some planes i would not make sense like airliners you wont see it to much because it will be behind or beside you i guess, for the sun must be in front or side of the airplane to cast light in and get blocked by object and fthan orm shadow in the cockpit.
For me not worth the extra cpu/ gpu power in this kind of way
But for dome cockpit like fighters yeah why not.
Than it would be worth this cpu/gpu power to me
So if they decide to build it in i hope the give a switch on and off in ui and a slider for the quality.
I vote for
As said in many posts before, the immersion would be much better even in VR to have a visible body of yourself, especially without a haed. That the shadow can be shown anyway will be no problem, I think. Every VR game which are all played from the ego perspective has full body to see.
But I’ll be patient to see it perhaps in FS2024. Perhaps until then MS/Asobo has noticed that the FS is mostly played from the ego view as well.
You got my vote.
Regards Ralf
Sounds very possible. Whether or not this really helps immersion in any appreciable way, I’m not sure.
But regardless, vr gets so little love they should really spend their time on the meriad of bugs first before even contemplating something like this.
for sure we hope to have big improvements in VR with the incoming FS2024!
thank you all for reply to my post!
best!
I just noticed that DCS has the head shadowing …at least in the hornet. Really adds immersion. Voted!
