Could not synchronise with cloud. Now some (but not all) settings are lost

I tried to start FS2020 and got a message indicating that it couldn’t sync with the cloud.

I logged out of XBox center and logged back in. Did this a few times and restarted the PC a few times before FS started.

When it did start, I noticed that some settings were reset (Language, Joystick) and the Landing Challenges showed 0% complete. Some Bush Trips where indicated as complete but not all those that I have done. I looked at the landing challenges more closely and noticed that my results are all shown in the Friends list.

What happened? Can I fix it?

Most likely what has happened is some or all of your profile have got overwritten with default data.

Have your logbook hours been wiped?

Chances are, without a manual local backup, those data are gone for good.

I’ve been hugely disappointed that after this many years of the sim’s life and with how many cloud-based data storage solutions there are for a myriad of services that simply work without drama, that Asobo/Microsoft has continued to not show more care with our data.

I don’t want to bash or be overly critical, but I brought this up during one of the betas I was involved in where it repeatedly wiped my cloud data. I fortunately had backups, but that really shouldn’t be required. I don’t have to back up my other Xbox saves, my OneDrive, iCloud, Dropbox, GaiaGPS mapping data, etc., etc., etc.

Asobo/Microsoft needs to be a better steward of our save data and have a methodology for either providing a means to automatically back it up locally, or quit introducing these issues that overwrite it.

This just keeps happening to people and it isn’t right.

No the logbook seems to be up to date - including my latest attempts to land the Extra at Southampton earlier this week. It seems very hit and miss. A lot of the configuration (aids, devices) seems reset. The landing scores are there but only in the friends list (with me as the friend)

So a partial wipe of sorts.

The folder you want to back up is the “wgs” folder. You can either do that by hand or there is a tool that can manage this for you.

%LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\SystemAppData\wgs

Sadly, if activity progress has been wiped, I’m not 100% sure if this tool could help you with that, but I don’t know enough about its internal workings to do more than speculate.

I just did a landing challenge. It said that it wasn’t my best score. The information is there but it isn’t being used to display which challenges I have completed and which which rating.

I’m having the same issue. ……”will not log to iCloud “
I’ve rebooted several times, logged out……still having the iCloud issue.
How did you fix this?

iCloud is Apple tech, so it won’t be that.

Typo……”cloud”
