Could someone fly over my hometown in the Italian Alps/Dolomites?

Hi! I’m planning of building a PC just for playing MFS but before dropping 3k€ I’d like to see how the place where I’m planning to fly more often looks. If someone could record a video it would be perfect but also screenshot will be fine

I live in the region “Trentino Alto Adige” so you could

  • take off in Trento where there is the airport: ICAO code LIDT
  • fly over the city of Trento
  • fly to my valley: Val di Sole. In the village of “Ossana” you should find a castle!

Another place that I’d like to see are the Dolomites so you could fly from Belluno’s airport ICAO Code: LIDB to the Dolomits e.g. “Croda dei Toni”

Thanks a lot and blue styes!

PS: let me know if you’d like more detailed informations!

I have been there ( my last open Beta flight ) Started in Bozen

Cool!
I recognise Caldaro’s lake and Ora!
Do you live nearby too?

This is how it’s seen on Google Maps

yes Neumarkt / Egna

Have you flown in the Dolomites? How are them?

Dolomites are represented badly…

It’s something that I’ve feared… They are really particular mountains that probably require photogrammetry Pictures to looks good… Now I’m hoping in a third party add-ons😅

Cortina D’Ampezzo / Wolkenstein / Kastelruth ( Langkofel is not so Ahhhhh )

For comparison this

is X-Planeout of the box Dolomites

I’ll try to record a video and put it on youtube for you. I’m pretty new to this though.

No. you have to go here to see: https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/Q80xTFBU7Gc

Yes that is very nice, but not "out of the box " … Dolomiti 3D costs about 70 Euro

Yes. And this will be the same case as with other simulation games: If you want to see closer to real world you have to pay for thousands of add-ons. Pretty disappointing after all this hype… I was expecting at least HD MESH where it’s available (big parts of EU and USA)…

In this particular case of the Dolomites, no amount of high res mesh will give you the rock shapes that these mountains have in real life. They need to be built as a custom 3D model, just like Frank Dainese did for X-Plane.
That being said, I already noted in my own thread about this, that the out of the box resolution of the terrain mesh is severly lacking, just with previous versions of Microsoft Flightsimulator.
It looks like something in between 38m and 19m resolution.

For proper definition you need at least 4meters.
In my opinion a proper mesh is THE most important feature of a terrain representation.
This is already true for landclass based depiction, where you might get confused where you are because the landclass is a bad aproximation of the real world, but if the terrain has the correct shape, you will instantly recognize mountains you are familiar with.
In a terrain engine such as this, where you can see the actual photograph of the area, a high res mesh is even more important when you fly closer, because you will see that there are ridges and rock formations in the picture that are not represented in the shape of the terrain at all.

The resolution they have is fine as long as you fly high and far away from the mountains. But as soon as you get closer than 15 kilometers it starts to become apparent that the mesh is not up to par.
I really wonder if there is a way to use the old mesh files that could be read by the ESP engine in FSX and P3D. Then I could simply install my HD meshes into the new sim without having to wait for someone else to release one for extra money.

I just wanted to let you know I didn’t forget about you. I got the video recorded following your suggestions. I took off from the airport in Trenton then went north to Lago di Santa Giustina. From there I turned West and followed the valley to your village, Ossana. I kept flying West and eventually landed at Altiporto del Passo Tonale. Sorry it’s taking so long. I’m new to pc gaming, video recording, and video editing. Those things and work are delaying me. I’m hoping I’ll have it up for you soon. What a beautiful place you live in by the way.

It’s really not looking good on the mesh side.
Just for reference here is what P3D looks like with FS Global add on mesh:

and here what you get in MSFS: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1KQBhnXKuxyCBv00JGFV7xXS24dJVELVr/view?usp=sharing

MS2020 and P3D are horrible there
X-Plane is way better in the Dolomites ( used OrthoXP )

Sorry it took so long but I finally got the video done. My very first edit ever so I hope I got it all right. I gave you a shout out in the description. If you want it removed just let me know.

Also I’m new to forums. Hope I post this correctly.
