As olifjc stated,
the first item to check is what your Throttles are doing.
And as the updated manual explains: Make sure you DON’T bind anything to your throttle axis (like you can do with other addons). And, to remove any axis bindings to the throttle axis is highly recommended - probably for the exact difficulty you are experiencing.
NOTE: WHEN posting to a forum questioning helicopter power settings, it is extremely helpful for you to explicitly distinguish between throttle and collective. They are related but distinctly different, and since many aren’t experiencing the issue you are experiencing, we need to understand what system is failing you.
The Developers are restricted from providing assistance on this forum. Their Discord link is also in their manual.
Also note: the CH-47D doesn’t have a separate throttle from the collective - its more of a straight forward type of “condition” lever that’s closer to eye level. If you referenced any other default helicopter of addon with a throttle, it would have added interest to more people to respond.
It is likely that because you did not explicitly mention your understanding between the collective and throttle inputs, many experienced people refrained from responding to you. Typically, when some demonstrates that they don’t understand the difference, it is many times a futile effort to teach them within a thread. When someone reaches the level of frustration you are at and already wanting to quit, it is a daunting challenge to “teach” or help that individual. At least within the immediacy of a single forum response.
Stay open minded and keep your desire to keep learning. Quiting is always an option, but learning and overcoming challenges is a lot more fulfilling. It empowers you to be able to help others.

I appreciate the response. I can tell you this, I am following direct basic instructions from youtube videos on how to simply take off with this thing and something isn’t working right for me. I’m struggling to determine what I am doing wrong, or if there is something else going on. I am simply using an X-box controller, which I was told is sufficient to fly this on PC. Perhaps I should take a video and that can demonstrate more directly what I am trying to communicate other than my words.
Again, verify there are no contoller Inputs that are bound to your throttle axis for CowanSim addons.
- If you do post a video, ensure the video includes what the throttle setting looks like in game as well as your pump settings on the overhead.
- At the time you lose power, pan your view (possibly pause sim) and include in the video the same views as mentioned above.
Insight from experience: When you have a keybind to an axis for throttle in helicopters or mixture in fixed wing, you will typically set it to cutoff at the start of the checklist. When you startup the engine, but use the mouse or manipulate the throttle or mixture in the in game cockpit…. Your engines start normally, but your phsical controller axis on your controls stays at cutoff. During flight, a slight bump to your controller or a “noisy” peripheral axis potentiometer will cause your throttle or mixture to revert back to what your physical controller is set at - i.e. fuel cutoff.
This is the first thing to check is not the issue… again, if you post a video.
NOTE: I’m on PC, so I don’t know how throttle works on a console controller. This would be a good time for someone else who uses a controller to respond to you.
Yes, the chopper has this bug sometimes. Was a long time ago I flew it but as far as I remember it happend when I started a feee flight in air, and it basically just drops down to the ground. So starting from the ground and no problem. And that means ”quickstart” not all the procedures
I totally read that as quilting is an option
Ditch your flight sim boys, we’re making blankets today!
@StiffBuffalo198 All joking aside, this really sounds like a collective vs. throttle issue. Often users inexperienced with helicopters run into this issue. It is also confusing that the ‘airplane throttle’ command will also operate the collective axis.
Throttle for both engines should remain at max for the duration of the flight. The governors will manage any throttle changes required (the user doesn’t need to do anything) and you fly with the collective.
Also, there aren’t that many YouTubers that actually know much about helicopters. Could you post a link to what video you are referring to? Was it on operating a sim or real 222B? There are many variants and a video on operating a real 222B might not be the same model and may have different procedures.
I didn’t give up and continued to play around with the settings a bit and was finally able to “sort of” fly it, but in this case it is user limitation as I’m now able to begin learning how to fly it properly. Turns out there was something corrupted in the download file so I re-downloaded it and now it’s working correctly.
