Cowansim H125 released

Any chance we can get the Hype Performance Group version of the H145 on XBOX?
Been watching some videos and would definitely be on board for that version.

You must work with release trim on the H145, it’s mandatory.

Several questions: (I’m in VR, btw, G2 with mostly high settings and DLSS performance)

(i) the image displayed in the mirrors is very blurry, and essentially only shows a blurry greenish ground and a blurry sky, but no buildings etc. Do I have a wrong setting, or is this a current limitation?

(ii) VR cockpit focus isn’t working (it’s working in other CS models)

(iii) The only thing I can do to the throttle is click on it, which toggles it between “flight” and lowest idle setting. How do I select intermediate throttle settings? According to the in-cockpit checklist this would be required for a start-up. Surprisingly enough, I can start the engine just fine by turning on the engine starter and going to the “flight” throttle setting immediately. Is this a simplified start-up process? Do we not have to worry about hot-starts in this model?

(iv) according to the slip-ball I would have to give it full right pedals to be in trim at cruise speed (130 knots)! That cannot be correct, can it? Altogether the ball behaves quite strangely
what is the best way in this model to make sure that the helicopter is in trim in the (apparent) absence of a reliable slip ball?

Hi, I’m new to helicopters so not sure if it’s me?

I’m finding the helicopter is rolling right to after liftoff only about 5 degress and then stops? Any ideas why

Thank you, Jez

The tail rotor horizontal thrust vector is below the main rotor so you’re probably seeing the result of this.

Something is very wrong with the power system. I was flying at Lukla area and got to a helipad about 14000ft . The helicopter is just slightly below max gross weight. Pulling up into an IGE hover requires almost full collective - strange thing is the FLI is still showing about 75% which is rather low. Anyone else seeing this issue ? In fact most of the time in IGE hover, the FLI is between 70-80% with no difference whatsoever at lighter or heavier gross weight.

My guess would be that 14,000 is a bit high. Yes one of these made it to Everest, but that must have been a great (perfect) day for flying. Anytime at that altitude is going to take most, to all of your collective. Especially considering the Hover ceiling is 13,500 IGE. And a OGE hover ceiling at 12,600. Altitudes like that you drop like a rock pretty quick. I’m not sure it has anything to do with the heli’s power as many people have stated here and on helisimmer this rotorcraft is actually overpowered in its current state.

i. Limitation. Mirrors with accurate optics are apparently beyond the realm of MSFS at the moment. Cowan said so in a changelog, IIRC.

ii. Don’t use this feature
no answer, sorry.

iii. That is the modeled behavior. I have not used that checklist but–practically speaking–you should not need an intermediate setting. The FADEC renders that irrelevant in the H125/AS350B3e. Perhaps there is an abnormal procedure where that’s called for but this aircraft doesn’t really simulate abnormals so :man_shrugging:

iv. Slip balls aren’t working well in helis because MSFS doesn’t seem to be computing side-slip correctly. It’s really bad in the B407 for example. Try flying in zero wind weather and find what control combination or ball indication is tracking straight-and-level based on sight picture. Then try and replicate that. Best advice I can offer.

75% FLI is low, but full collective sounds about right. A lot of heli things are work-in-progress as far as the sim, and therefore also with the H125. That is a very high density altitude to try and hover near MTOW.

FYI, the AS350B3 that landed at the Everest summit was stripped out to eliminate weight, with a single pilot who had been on a diet (seriously). Furthermore, the winds at the summit were howling during the attempts, so it wasn’t a true hover. The pilot said that he had a very hard time even keeping the skids on the ground at the summit because the orographic winds over the peak were pushing the aircraft back into the air.

So I was 10 minutes into a flight and everything started to power down and I ended up crashing. Was scrambling to look around the cockpit for warnings, and I think I saw what looked like a battery icon in the center front screen - any sleuths wanna help me figure out what I did wrong? Had it all trimmed out nicely and everything. Had a nice time. Ended poorly.

You turn generator on?

I think I did. But now I’m wondering. Thanks -

Haven’t stopped thinking about getting an A-Star/Squirrel on top of the world, Mount Everest. Today I finally did it! This was my 4th flight from Lukla up to the top.

My first three flights I got all the way to the top but my approach was too fast, each ending with a crash/damaged skids, drops like a rock at that altitude. The first flights I took all the weight out of the H125. Only a 100lbs pilot and 30% fuel, not even the doors. All flights were completed with the clear skies preset which is probably a little warm for Lukla at 59°F.

Each time I made the ascent I had to maneuver back and forth on the south west face / western ridge of Everest. The H125 really starts to fizzle out around 23,000ft. Once I was able to reach the peak much like in the real world, I could not get the Heli to settle in one location, I kept getting pushed away or down the ridge. Well out of any hover capabilities.

Today I changed the fuel from 30% to 15% 21.33gal for the trip. This was very risky and not realistic at all but it made the difference! I made it to the top of Everest and back to Lukla with 2% 2.40gal left. Still had a bit of a clunk when setting the skids in the snow, but we survived! And taking off took full collective and careful maneuvering away from the ridge. This is extremely dangerous if not stupid single engine environment.

Of course the sim being the sim, Everest doesn’t really have a ridge or peak, it’s more of a rolling hill with gradual slopes all around. I had to add snow coverage because the mountain is rendered black in spots.

And a giant seam running down the West Face

Top of the world at 28,750ft

View of Everest on the way up.

The long view down to Base Camp III. Mount Lhoste ahead and Hilary Peak to the right.

On descent back to Lukla. I turned the snow coverage back off for the trip down the valley again. You can really see all the crevasses and texture down the ridges, but Everest turns into a black hill.

I am actively flying the H125 in Lukla area using KSD’s Everest scenery. Have not tried the peak of Everest, just flying around Lukla, Namche Bazaar, Tengboche and Everest Base Camp. Be very careful of weight. Starting from Lukla, you might be able to fly, but at Base Camp, the chopper might not be able to hover even IGE. I have found a couple of issues flying at such high altitudes. The H125 does not idle properly. With the twist grip on Idle, rotor RPM is somewhat higher, around 340+. The FLI is also flawed. Full collective should have the FLI shoot up to the max, but instead it always hover around 70-80%. When touching down, with the collective full down, rotor wants to overspeed to 406+ RPM with the overspeed warning horn. I guess these issues will be fixed by either Asobo or Cowan in future. One thing that bothers me is the strong ground effect “push” when the heli is partially over an elevated platform. I have read that this is a known Asobo issue.

In the mountains, the attitude of the heli against the horizon will sometimes fool you. You might think you are banking but your attitude indicator is level. When in doubt, cross check with the ADI

On a High Altitude kick. K2 is next. Satellite imagery looks really good in some places here, maybe better than Everest. Which is funny because K2 gets more weather and is also the harder mountain to climb.

Just bought this in the sale, I’ve found the hat switch for the Lower Mirrors but I don’t see any reflection in them at all, I’m in VR if that makes a difference. Anyone not seeing anything? Thanks

Mirrors don’t work in the sim. Simple as that.

Does anyone have custom Lvars for the H125? Example search light

I’ve been really enjoying the H125 with just my VKB Gladiator MK.II (no pedals), it’s surprisingly manageable with just the twist grip.

Pro tip: If you don’t have some form of head tracking, using the first showcase camera (looking at the skids) can be a great help when landing. IMO, there is no shame in using tricks like this, since (most) simmers are disadvantaged by not feeling the physical movement and balance sensations.

Edit: Also, if you want to remove stuff you added via the weights menu (EMS config, etc.), you need to just put a - in front of the number (i.e. -220 lbs), this will cause the relevant item to get removed from the helicopter, the number is automatically set to zero. (Setting the weight to 0 directly won’t remove it)
