I got it, and can highly recommend. Flight model is SUPERB. The textures are gorgeous, and the performance is smooth (unlike some other ‘high-end’ GA planes which can start taxing your framerates). I appreciated the very straightforward docs on how to disable failures. Best of all, as IRL this aircraft has a very nice cockpit view, much better than the DA-62 which I wanted to like, but those pillars are a view killer in VR. Operation is really simple with the FADEC taking care of blade angle, mixture, etc. Trim response is very usable. In short, you will not regret this one. COWS have burst onto the scene with a ragingly good debut.
Basically every GA type airplane with a YD behaves that way in MSFS. If you engage the AP, the YD engages as well, but when disengaging the AP, the YD on some airplanes remains engaged.
Only two flights so far with the DA42 TDI and I had the locked rudder / nosewheel steering on the second one as well.
I have never had this issue with any other aircraft. I will try again to see if it was related to the YD.
Because I did use the AP on that second flight.
Third flight, again with the AP on during the flight and then off arriving in the pattern.
Upon AP disconnect the AP and the YD indications in the PFD both flash yellow and then appear to be off.
After landing no stearing what so ever. Something is seriously not right here.
Do I get the update through the Discord or through the official vendor app ??
Never Mind…did what I always tell people to do myself…checked the app
Update: seems there is a bit of a problem when using FSUIPC or Axis&Ohs to bind your controller axis for the DA42. Which is a real bummer for those of us who have used FSUIPC for literally decades because it allows to tie profiles to certain aircraft.
But when I used only the built in controller profiles and shut down FSUIPC or Axis&Ohs, yes I have both but never both active, the DA42 problems with Rudder and NWS after AP use disappeared.
I’ve been back and forth with the devs on their discord about my stuck nose wheel steering issue after landing and it does seem to be SPAD related. With that disabled there is no issue so that much is figured out. Is anyone using SPAD with this aircraft and has no issues with the nose wheel steering?
Im trying to figure this stuff out.
It makes more sense to not have any control. As i am capturing standard user inputs that SPAD and other programs dont send.
The steering stopping mid flight makes absolutely no sense.
I have the latest updated version and it appears the YD oscillations are atill present. Once I turn the yaw dampner off in flight the oscillations disappear.
Awesome aircraft! Love the behavior of the standby instruments. Noticed the electric attitude indicator wobbled a bit spinning up when I turned on the battery.
After spending many hours in mrtommymxr’s DA-40, it was clear that I would buy the DA-42. As expected, the aircraft meets the highest standards of design and flight characteristics.
From my subjective point of view, if there is anything to “criticize” at all, it is the fps rate which is 5-7 fps below the DA-40.
Great joy to fly! Many thanks for this great airplane COWS!
Is anyone flying this with a Honeycomb Alpha? How does it fly with this? Since it’s a stick aircraft I assume the devs optimised the flight model for a stick, but I have a yoke. Curious to hear other’s thoughts.
