Hi, perhaps somebody could help me with this?
I think about a CPU upgrade. I use Ryzen 5 5600 with 32 GB memory and Radeon RX 5700 8GB graphics. With FHD everything is quite OK (achieving 30 fps), but with higher resolutions the graphics card seems to be the main show stopper and the CPU gets slightly at its limits with my video settings (according to the fps overlay in dev settings).
I’m planning to upgrade the GPU in the future. In the meantime maybe it’s a good idea to take a better CPU which hopefully stays useful later. I’m thinking of Ryzen 7 5800x3d which seems to be quite affordable right now. Even better: I could use my existing mainboard and the RAM as well. (Upgrading to Ryzen 7 7800x3d - a very interesting CPU - would therefore be too expensive for me in total.)
It would be great if anyone could contribute personal experience with such an upgrade, perhaps some data on how much gain (in percentage or fps) one could possibly expect in reality. Would it be worth it?
Thank you in advance!
Back in time when 5800x3d was released I did upgraded from 5600 as well. I remember I was amazed by the difference, but I don’t have any analysis anymore tho. It is still one of the best cpu for MSFS and it’s understandable the 7800x3d is too much with cost of all the new hardwares.
Until you get more response I recommend you to search ‘5800x3d’ here in the forums and you will get all night long topics with the comparisons and feedbacks like this from
This would be a wonderful upgrade and with your RX 5700 gpu you could also easily upgrade to a higher resolution like 1440p. You would most likely need a new monitor to support a higher resolution than your current FHD but the added level of immersion would be great! I used to have a Ryzen 3800xt coupled with a 5700xt and I could run 4k in the sim with high and some ultra settings.
