Nothing scientific, here… but with this new (well, now several month old) build, I can run this sim in VR on mostly ultra settings, 90hz full render resolution, payware aircraft (PMDG/Fenix/etc) with payware scenery on VATSIM while streaming (which involves a bunch of other apps running at the same time)… smooth as silk locked in at 45fps which is perfect for VR at half the refresh rate.

Nice, congrats!! I have to stick to 72Hz, and certainly not all Ultra (but I only have a 4080 so VRAM is always a consideration). Main limitation is when doing group flights though. Do you often fly with other players close-by?
I am sure a lot of the variance people see in performance is down to use case. Mine may be different to yours and to the next person.
For me, the important things to the way I fly are:
- Close to the ground (so I have to run lower LODS). I very rarely fly over 4k ft hehe
- Quick turning (so needs to be fluid - helicopters yawing, fast aerobatic moves in other planes, banking and yanking weaving through mountain valleys in bush flights etc)
- Exploring photogrammetry (low) so again I need to have lower LODS to make that work (anything over 105 now is potentially asking for trouble in the bigger cities, and I like to just have one setting I can leave alone so I put this down to 80 TLOD and 120 OLOD now so I don’t have to keep changing it in different situations).
- 15+ other aircraft close by (so that uses more VRAM and GPU, and hits CPU pretty hard).
- Fast jets, low to terrain (is still a struggle sometimes, some jets worse than others).
Even with 120 OLOD, I still see basic shapes for things like parked cars and support vehicles until I am really close. Maybe I will try this at 200 as I don’t think it really impacts too much?
In multiplayer, there are some aircraft that are a total killer to be near. Their models have no lower LoD versions so it’s rendering multiple of a heavy aircraft at the same time. Disaster (for everyone, not just me). Some Helicopters seem worse off (no names!) which is a total pain as just when you need it nice and fluid to land well amongst everyone else, it actually gets worse!
