I upgraded my i7 9700 ,32gb DDR4 ram , sff HP desktop which had no separate gpu by adding an nvidia 1050TI (4gb) sff GPU, specifically for MSFS before i even installed the program. It was the most powerful GPU i could find that fitted into a sff case. And i run the graphics mainly on medium settings on 2 ■■■■■■ 1080p monitors.
I think it actually runs better just using the old Intel 630 graphics baked into the motherboard .
Is it possible that the 32gb of ddr4 ram i have does away for any need for a dedicated gpu card?
1050ti was a bad choice. I had one and changed it to a 2060s and it’s still far away from perfect. I’m waiting for a 3080 with 16gb or similar.
Sure, but it has to be a hal height card (sff) to fit in my case…is there a better half height card?
Don’t think so. Maybe you can put that stuff in a new case with more space.
Definitely get a small tower or cube
I also have a small case but came with a tiny single fan 1050ti.Luckly I got a dual fan 2060super and it was able to fit although the temps reach the late 70s under full load but if your case is really small you’ll need a newer one.The 1050ti is absolutely not worth keeping its super slow.
There is something like an external GPU if you want to stick with the case.
But the cheapest option would be to scrap that small case and go for a tower.
A 1050 is no gaming GPU, and MSFS is the heaviest of games…
I have an i5 8400 CPU that was paired with a GTX 1050TI when MSFS 2020 came out. It worked but the FPS were terrible. I swapped out the 1050TI for an RTX 2070 and it was a huge improvement. This sim utilizes your GPU much more than your CPU. If your on a budget and tight on space, the least I would go with is a GTX 1660.
Firstly your integrated graphics are baked into your CPU, not your motherboard.
Secondly I wonder whether you are plugging into your 1050ti if you feel the graphics are worse.
Thirdly I’m wondering how you think that RAM can improve graphics performance (beyond stuttering).
A 1050ti is not the card for MSFS even at 1080p but especially not with 2 monitors.
I’d run some benchmarks to make sure your 1050ti is running properly.
Thanks, you are right.
So I bit the bullet and splashed out on a rtx3080 and high end ryzen cpu and msi motherboard.
Hell of a job reinstalling msfs until I accidentally discovered it is incredibly easy via the Microsoft store. Wasted 36 hours discovering that. Now it is smooth as silk.
