This is getting very frustrating now with still no update from Adobo. It doesn’t happen every time I use the sim but every now again I get CTD with no error. Surely by now we should have an update? Has anyone heard of news about this?
In my experience, this CTD often/only happend, when my CPU and GPU were overclocked too much. After WU3 I experienced a higher “critical OC-behaviour” of the sim than before the update. Maybe it´s due to the currently reported CPU utilization after the Update.
On some flights it happend, on some flights not. But hence I´ve dropped my OC CPU in Mhz and also my GPU, everything is stable. May this is a option for you?
I have a very stable system and performance has been great throughout this period where others report bad stutters. Nonetheless, I’ve had CTDs, either loading into Flight or exiting the Sim, so I’m not claiming immunity from this phenomenon.
CTDs, unless they represent an excessive amount of one’s activity in the sim (and that would vary across appetites and expectations), are a fact of life with applications in general. Programs crash or Abend.
What’s difficult to troubleshoot is because of the variety of hardware and software configurations in the real-world. There’s just too wide a variety to effectively test a full spectrum of operating conditions. It would be one thing if MS could impose a hardware reference that’s very locked down (i.e., iPhone or Google Pixel) and then testing could be very focused because of small sample variation. That ain’t gonna happen in Windows land.

Have you looked at the Developer Updates? How about read the Update Release Notes. Asobo has included fixes for numerous CTD bugs in the last update alone. CTD bug fixes are scheduled as “Ongoing - ASAP”. There has been lots of communication on this front if someone cares to look.
There are also plenty of CTD events that have been attributed to user settings and system configuration. I don’t expect there will ever be a fix or update for those.
I think MSFS is very sensitive to any overclock. I was getting crashes when I had an overclock on my 3070. I will say I had no stability issues on any other game that frankly pushes the GPU much harder. I’m CPU pegged most of the time so my GPU is rarely “pushed” on MSFS.
The CTD’s stopped completely when I removed the overclock. I now have a profile set in Afterburner purely for MSFS.
That’s helpful to know. I happen to have a 3070 myself and it’s the OC version. It sure how I would turn off the OC as I don’t want it to have a negative affect on FPS.
The stock OC doesn’t seem to cause me any problems. I just cancelled out the additional OC that I normally have applied. You can check in afterburner and return it to default settings from there if you need to.
Be sure to turn off any OC’ing you are doing. That stopped some of my CTDs, but maybe it was just placebo.
Yup. Whenever I OC my CPU or GPU and play, it crashes. Every time. Turn all OC off and play again… no crashes at all.
I and many AMD GPU users can not use any driver after their early Nov ‘20 driver. CTDs, sometimes after 3 to 4 hours into a flight occur in MSFS.
Funny how some games just don’t agree with OC’ing. Back in the day I could run everything, except Battlefield 3 would crash all the time. Oddly, not even long into the game were you would think it got hot/over heated. It was crazy, benchmark tools and “torture test” apps had no issue (could run them for hours). But turning down the CPU OC BF3 worked fine again… go figure.
I wonder sometimes if it’s caused by when you put all the processing load on one thread/core. MSFS2020 is like that, 8 cores on my rig and one is just getting slammed.
