I wanted to create a separate thread as I think there is a wider issue which is being amplified by VR and Nvidia 3000 series GPU’s which needs investigating.
My specs are as follows:
Ryzen 5600x, H100 cooler, 32gb Vengeance Ram, EVGA 3080 FTW3 Ultra, Corsair RM850X, Windows 10 Pro 20H2, HP Reverb G1.
Issues:
- MSFS crashing to desktop (0xc0000005 & 0xc0000409 error codes in Event Viewer)
- Reverb blue screen and nauseating spinning (Fixed by forcing PCIe16 to run in Gen3(
After a suggestion from someone in this forum, I dropped the PCIe 4.0 support on my Strix B550-F WiFi Motherboard to GEN 3 in the BIOS. I don’t know exactly what this fix did, but it stopped the blue-screen and nauseating spinning in the Reverb HMD, so I’m very thankful for that. It also fixed the crashing to desktop issues I was experiencing in DCS.
Having seen positive results on PCIe Gen 3 change, I booted up MSFS and started my test flight from WAYY in a Grand Caravan towards the mountains (High levels clouds and Daylight with AP engaged).
Approximately 10mins into the flight, the HMD went black briefly, it loaded back to WMR cliff house and MSFS crashed to desktop. I tried the same flight plan again and it crashed at approximately the same time and location.
In terms of other things I’ve tried, they are the following:
- Bang for Buck Performance Guide (Render @ 70%, TAA, Open XR SS @ 100% (FPS is stable for the most part)
- MSI Afterburner Undervolt (Common fix for crashing to windows in 3000 series GPU’s)
- Process Lasso (Removed CPU 0 & 1 and disabled Dynamic thread priority boost)
- Uninstalled and Reinstalled Nvidia 460.89 drivers
- Nvidia Control Panel Setup
With my PC setup, I fail to see how I’m CPU or GPU limited. I know there are a huge number of crashing to desktop issues currently in circulation (Nvidia 3000 series related, MSFS related).
This is by no means a complaint. We’re playing the most complex game/simulator on the market, that only released VR implementation 5 days ago.
I’d be interested to see if anyone is experiencing similar issues (particularly with Crashing to Desktop). I’m hoping it’s a known issue with Asobo, or a problem with Nvidia drivers, but I’m basically out of ideas now.
