• Regular flying MSFS working file. Only Creating Manual cache freezing and GPU going to 0%. I can fly for hours with only a few ½ sec freezing and occasional 0% GPU but recovers quickly.
• I created about 12 places without problems but now creating manual cache freezing MSFS every time at various stages of creation.
• 100GB Manual Cache file created. About 20GB of manual cache created.
• Waited 45 min but have to End Task to kill app.
• When MSFS is frozen (not responding) other applications working fine.
• When MSFS is frozen GPU at 0% (with 4 different GPU monitors) but other applications always working so only MSFS is frozen.
• Clean new PC. Only MSFS installed at this time.
• Fast internet service.
• GPU and Windows updated.
S.O.S. Please
I voted you up but I honestly expect this to someday be a dropped feature. It’s too slow. I got my manual cache (used space) to about 300 gb. The process was I would start fresh and select HD areas for hours until it was taking 5 minutes or more to process each selection I made (not cache it). The first cache creation would take hours and I would go to bed and leave my comp on. The next morning I would restart my pc and msfs. I would then click “View” manual cache. Since I had a large file after my first time doing it, it would take hours to do anything, thus the reason I would click view and then go to work. When I got home and shower, eat, etc. I would add to my cache and then do the same process as before. Go to bed, next morning reboot, click view and go to work, etc, etc. Did that for about 5 days and finally stopped. I haven’t messed with it since Dec 2020 and figured I’d try it now a half a year later. Looks like it’s never been touched and I clicked view two hours ago and it’s still reading the cache (which appears frozen like you mentioned). If I wanted to put myself through it again and leave it I’m sure it would be ready when I wake up tomorrow but I just was hoping to see it fixed. It is not and I doubt it will ever be.
Are there any plans for fixing the freezing issue with the manual cache?
The same thing happens to me, when
I try to lower an area the simulator closes. Somebody
know how to avoid this?

I tried turning the hyperthreading from Auto to On and it seem to help. It still takes a long time but will eventually complete.
Also, if you wait for each action (click of the mouse) to complete (**each can take several minutes) it will complete BUT if you click several times, thinking the first click did not work, it will not complete. So each step can take up to 5 min to complete but for me it will complete with hyperthreading on.
Yes it’s stupid that you have to do this and it should be smoother but this will work for me 80% of the time. You could turn hyperthreading off but that would loose the advantage of hyperthreading. So only recommend that as a last resort. I have high speed unlimited internet so not going to do this that much.
