My sim worked without issues yesterday. Today I updated to SU2 and after initially loading, when I click “start” the sim immediately crashes with no error. Windows event viewer gives the following description:
“Faulting application name: FlightSimulator2024.exe, version: 1.4.20.0, time stamp: 0x00000000

I don’t know why the issue would be with openxr_loader.dll considering I’m not trying to load the sim in VR.

CTDs were not uncommon in the update 2 beta. But usually the matter resolved itself when you simply tried the same flight again.
I’ve tried starting the sim about a dozen times now, and restarted my computer. The issue does not happen when I click “start flight” but when I first load in and you get the option for “accessibility” and “start.” That is the start button that causes the CTD.
They did fix an issue with the Start button not appearing at all, which started to occur after update 1. I wonder if this fix is linked to your problem. I never encountered a CTD with the Start button at any time during the update 2 beta. I am also running the Steam version of MSFS and don’t use VR, so we have that in common.
Also does it also happen if you click the Accessibility button? Because you can get to the main menu by clicking the Accessibility button, then clicking Continue. This gets you to the same place as clicking Start.
But if this fails then I think you will need to try some diagnostics yourself, unless this turns out to be a common problem for a lot of people. It also might be worthwhile adding your PC systems specs to the post. I listed below a couple of things I have done to diagnose/cure problems in the past.
If this was happening to me I would first try removing all content from my community folder. The easiest method is to just rename it. MSFS will create a new community folder as it loads.
If this works then gradually reintroduce your community folder content until you work out which content is the cause. Often regenerating the layout.json on individual community folder content can cure CTDs or system freezes, as MSFS is much more sensitive to the values than MSFS 2020 was.
If community folder content is not the cause then I would try deleting my UserCfg.opt. I usually just rename it in case I need to get it back. This will force MSFS to generate a new one as it loads. Note that you will lose all your graphics config settings as MSFS will assign a default based on your system. For steam users this file lives in
C:\Users<windows user name>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024
I all else fails I would totally uninstall MSFS and start again. But I would wait to see if other people are also reporting the same problem before doing a full reinstall. Luckily it’s not a huge download like 2020 was. And I have done this myself in the past to fix problems with MSFS 2024.
Had the exact same event viewer error code.
The sim will attempt to boot up, but then flashes and error code that it’s crashed.

Thanks for the reply! Clicking accessibility and then continue causes the same issue once I click continue. Community folder is empty, generating a new Usercfg.opt didn’t help. Sounds like I’m not the only one with this issue though.

The update 3 beta is available. Might be worth a try as the release notes say a couple of crashes were fixed including a crash on boot. Steam still shows the beta as “update 2”, but when I selected it it downloaded an update. As it now showing the version as 1.5.1.0, I think they just haven’t relabelled the beta in Steam yet.
If you have any third-party software installed - such as the OpenXR Toolkit - please back up your settings files first. Then uninstall the software, verify that all related files and folders have been completely removed and reboot PC.
I have exact same issue, only with the App Store version. Never any issues, after updating to SU2 a consistent CTD when pressing start. Emptying the community folder did not help.
I have also FS2020 installed with OpenXR. I wonder if that causes the problem?

I removed OpenXR Toolkit, installed the latest NVidia driver and deleted my usercfg.opt. It did not make any difference. The error I am getting is in NTDLL.DLL.

Not sure what to do… The solutions in this thread didn’t help
Thanks, but unfortunately it did not solve the issue.
Exact same here with ntdll.
I had 5 CTDs yesterday when attempting to changing the time…. When starting with LIVE time I had no issues….
same issue - CTD all the time with SU2
