There’s a certain mod we are not allowed to discuss here that basically does this to work, which can also cause problems and part of why it’s forbidden on here (but not the only reason, if I’m not mistaken).
I know the one. So assuming it’s not that…
No, he uses a freshly installed win11 on a new disk. This is not a software related issue.
Or it is software, and some package/driver gets installed every time, and the issue re-occurs.
“I’ve repeated this process 5 times now…”, is in my experience here at work the hidden problem many times over.
2 Years ago, after an WU I noticed, that if I wanted to start a flight and clicked on the “Fly” button, the game went CTD. In the end, the cause was an bugged freeware livery. I removed that and no more issues.
I also found an thread on this forum about imediate CTD when Clicking the “Ready to Fly” Button with No Error where faulty keybindings were the cause.
A good point, and a dangerous assumption.
I’ve seen no request, or confirmation of an empty Community folder in this thread. That really should be step 1 for all unexpected sim behaviour.
To rule out cpu and ram issues try a couple of hours of this
I never had anything untowards before cycle 14 so I usually skip 1-13 but you don’t have to
PS. this (free*) app is great for testing per core undervolts/overclocks, if you don’t have it already then get it.
Yeah sorry, I didn’t create the topic so I didn’t have all of the relevant info in it. The “spot” is anytime I click “Fly” it loads to about 75%, hangs for a second, and then crashes to the desktop. The only other time it crashes is in the world map whenever I select an airport I want to fly to, the map starts to zoom in to the airport, it stutters for a second, and then crashes to the desktop.
From what I was looking at last night, that’s exactly the plan. Finding a dirt cheap LGA 1151 mobo (doubtful) or go the AMD route and try an X3D processor. But as you mentioned, I JUST purchased 64GB of brand new DDR4 RAM and it’s outside of the return window as of last week so I’d have to buy more DDR5 RAM. ![]()
@Dutch1957 I have no addons, never have, and all keybinds are default. No point in changing anything if nothing loads to begin with.
So just to eliminate it, have you tried it with an empty Community folder? I’m assuming you have as why would you populate it with things if you can’t fly, but its good to eliminate it.
Yes I have deleted it a few times before with zero results. Also, since the game crashes every time, I get the option to run it in safe mode when I start it up which disables all 3rd party software and there’s no difference between safe mode and normal.
What about hosts file?
Go to
c:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc
In notepad or notepad++ open file named hosts
Take a screenshot and paste into topic.
I’ve had this before. I’m 99.9999999% sure it’s a Bing Server issue.
For the World Map you can change the map style to IFR and it will never crash again there. There is a mod you can install so you don’t have to do that every time (which I still run now. I’d post a link but let’s solve the other issue first!).
But it’s trying to load the same “tiles” when you fly and that is the problem I’m sure. I know you’ve turned off Bing Data but something is up and I think this is still the biggest clue here. It’s still using Bing somewhere and somehow.
That you have eliminated most possibilities, I have only 2 more thoughts.
- Have you deleted the SceneryIndex cache and the other Scenery cache?
- Oh and DX Caches for good measure.
- I am beginning to think your ISP is blocking that Bing channel for some reason. Have you tried using a VPN?
EDIT: I know you’ve said you ran with network cable out so that should exclude those things as a possibility but it really does sound like something is messed up inside and even with Bing off, it’s still trying to load with that, so going offline is also tripping on this.
Doesn’t look like there’s any data in it. This is the entire thing.

That looks pretty vanilla to me.
Ah, thanks for the IFR suggestion. I’ve switched to it before but it still crashed when zooming in, however this time it didn’t. No idea why.
- There’s no data in the scenery cache and I’ve deleted the sceneryindex cache.
- Yep! Every time I do a disk cleanup!
- I highly doubt it’s my ISP. It’s Spectrum.
Does your smartphone have internet from the same provider as your PC?
Nope! Spectrum cable (300mbps) for PC and T-Mobile for phone data (if I turn off wifi of course).
Can you unplug the ethernet cable and use smartphone as an internet access point for a PC via USB?
edit
and turn off wifi
I just tried it and I still got the CTD in the same spot. ![]()
edit: I didn’t use a USB cable but used my phone as a hotspot using it’s own data network
