CTD Switching Between VR and Monitor (Reverb G2) - This Might Help

Hi all,

I found that switching between VR and monitor usually resulted in a minute or two complete stutter fest at 1 to 2 FPS until it sorts itself out and ‘normal operation is resumed’. Sometimes, this never recovers, and a CTD results. But I think I’ve found something that helps this specific situation.

Buried in the support FAQs, I found a remark pointing out that switching between VR and monitor may take a ‘few moments’ because it has to switch to the appropriate settings. Now, I have standard graphics settings at 4K with most everything high/ultra/on; for VR, pretty well low/medium/off to get acceptable performance. A lightbulb above my head flashed on … perhaps the problem is switching between these settings and re-rendering?

So, I have switched my screen graphics settings to ‘Low-End’ … well below what my computer can handle and close to (actually lower than) my VR graphics settings. Like this, switching between VR and screen has been smooth and instant. And, after a dozen flights or so, no CTD.

I posted on this way back in January but that thread is locked, and I can’t find another that covers this specific issue. Anyway if like me you fly exclusively in VR and only switch back to screen mode to do something else - this might help.

For reference - i7 9700, 64Gb, RTX2080Ti 11Gb. Complete reinstall of Windows & MSFS last week … but that’s a whole other story

I do this exact same thing and notice the same results.

I also noticed if your switching back and forth to adjust render scale settings for example, when you’re back in VR the terrain lod etc match 2d settings until it loads everything back to the vr levels of details.
