I have gsync enabled but still get screen tearing and have to turn on vsync in-game. Is this normal?

I’m playing on a 144hz monitor with gsync enabled. My understanding is that when using gsync you should not have to turn on vsync in games. However I still notice a ton of screen tearing in MSFS and have to additionally turn on vsync to fix it. Is this normal?
