Realized in all the 40th anniversary hype around the A310 that I’ve been sleeping on what a great job Blackbird did with the Beaver and I’m trying to put together a few fun missions for her, but the more I look into available add-ons which support a cold and dark load in on the water, the more it seems that this is a huge void in the sim right now.
All flightsim.to and externally-downloaded PC sceneries aren’t options for me, as I’m on Xbox and limited to Marketplace.
I’m just making sure I’m not missing anything? Trying to query Marketplace for search terms like “seaplane”, “float” and “dock” yields items with promising thumbnails and screenshots but nothing that would indicate that these features are built in, and I’m reluctant to put any money towards add-ons that don’t solve for what I’m trying to do.
Any hidden gems out there for floatplane scenery that includes dock spawn points? I don’t care where in the world it is.
edit: I know that spawning on hard surface and slewing into the water is an option, but some of the most stunning water scenery in the game is not necessarily located in a proximity to a surface runway where slewing is reasonable.
There are a few places I found in Canada with sea base docks. When I get home I will post those I know of. Actually I think I opened a bug thread about one which doesn’t work correctly. I’ll dig that out…
Most seaplane bases in game do not include parking spots for some reason, as well as most small airfields. Therefore you can’t start cold & dark there. The only option you have is to start at a nearby airfield parking and teleport pressing “Y” key. However Pilot’s B-314 includes a pack of 20 seaplane bases with parkings included.
There’s a fair few mods about which add water runways with parking/mooring spots like Misty Moorings posted above. Made a thread about them a few months back here: (Sorry Xbox users, hope you can get freeware mods one day!)
That one seems to come from a bush trip, LNM says ‘microsoft-bushtrip-sanjuan\Scenery\bushtrip-sanjuan\Scenery\San Juan.bgl’ so whoever made that bushtrip added in the parking spot. Very rare that happens in my experience with the first party stuff.
