Custom Weather/Date/Time in Group Flight?

I’ve been flying with a buddy in group flight, and I’ve run into hiccups trying to set custom times and weather for us both.

It appears that I can make some changes that stick (time of day), but it all gets locked down once someone has joined my group, and weather appears to revert back to live conditions. This is troublesome as we’re trying specific techniques, like crosswind landings, accidental VFR flight into IMC, etc.

We were only able to fly with custom weather by NOT flying in Group mode which requires us to both manually match our weather settings manually (when we DON’T want the live weather). I feel like I’m missing something. Is there an easy way to play with others with custom weather without both people setting that custom weather individually?

Only the leader of the group can change the time of day and the weather. For others members, the weather panel is locked.

That makes sense. I guess that I assumed I was the group leader because I invited the other person to my group, but everything becomes locked in my end once the other person joins, which sounds like that indicates that they have actually become the leader. Okay, that at least gives me something new to watch out for. Thanks!
