Customizable graphics options for Xbox

It would be great if we could see some level of advanced graphic customization options for Xbox to allow more advanced simmers the options to tune performance vs visual settings to their individual liking. In particular things such as the “glass cockpit refresh rate” for those of us who primarily fly military based aircraft.

I understand there is probably a desire to minimize support issues and ensure consistent game play quality on the Xbox platform by limiting configuration options. But there are other games on Xbox that allow for graphics customizations far beyond just the simple HDR10 on/off option we get in MSFS.

And while you could argue that “advanced simmers” should invest in the PC platform, there are some of us who are investing in other areas first (ie HOTAS, simming chair, sound systems, etc. etc.) as a first step while leveraging our existing investment in an Xbox system that provides great value to get into flying ($499) before spending the $3k-$4k on a proper PC / VR rig. I’m one of them

Thanks for the consideration

It would be nice to be able to tweak the graphics quality/performance balance in the consoles. For example, in the LOD discussion for the AAU beta it has been suggested that graphical quality has been diminished to help reduce CTDs at highly detailed third party airports. Since I don’t have any of those, I would rather have the pretty graphics.

I cannot see a quality vs. performance option being instated that is incapable of ensuring CTDs do not happen in either setting state.

There are too many end users with varying levels of experience and expectations to allow a setting within the sim to be set “wrong” and start causing the sim to CTD.

The crux of the problem is the CTDs and the solution is to find and eliminate the causes of those CTDs, not add a band-aid “solution” that still allows the sim to CTD if set wrong.

The only time a quality vs. performance option should exist is when it safe to run the sim in either setting regardless of installed Marketplace content.

What about pilots of smaller, GA planes? I almost never get CTD with these machines, while airliner pilots suffer many crashes. A graphical option would be great in this case.

GA, airliner, helicopter or hot air balloon, there is no way the developers are going to put a setting in the sim that will allow the sim to CTD.

It is far better to ask that they fix the CTDs, so that no matter what the setting (should one ever become an option) the sim will not crash.

Let’s say they fixed CTDs. Now we’re talking about frame rates. I would gladly give up some frame rates for better picture quality. It’s a standard in almost every ps5/XSX game to have graphics options.

Yes, that is the correct approach here. There is nothing wrong with wanting an FPS vs. graphic fidelity setting, but it needs to instated (if it even can be) after the CTD issues are addressed.

It has to be that either setting will work for any user and their choice in scenery and aircraft. It can’t be a situation where a setting choice crashes the sim.

YES please!

Every other game has this option or is locked at 60fps, so why not flight simulator? I do not like having to use the motion smoothening feature on my TV as it introduces lag.

The « glass cockpit refresh rate » is too low on Xbox. It’s not realistic and it kills the immersion.
