Just one of the amazing views you get while flying Darkstar which can outrun the Sun. In this video (Uploading now) I demonstrate my take off technique. Mach9+ in under 10 minutes.
Here’s a preview.

I will upload the videos here, they are still processing so wait for higher resolution.
Removed current video, Need to upload a different video that shows the actual flight into the sunset
You don’t need the Darkstar to outrun the sun, Concorde is fast enough to get you a sunrise from the west, I’ve watched it when flying evening flights from Sydney to Perth.
The Sun does only move about 1.3Mach. So while true - how true fidelity to the actual Concorde is Concorde sim? I haven’t looked if I can download it from the content manager or if it’s a mod addon. I’ve been hesitant to get things that are 3rd party because when flying an actual airliner I want the "realest’ systems and performance simulated. I moved from the 747 to A310-300 because of that quirk of mine.
The Darkstar is more interesting to me outside of that scope because it’s like flight-testing a new plane since there’s no real known characteristics.
For instance how is the TAS programmed? I can work that out.
Presumably the Concorde has normal TAS rule-of-thumb simulated and so its cruising altitude figures for a TAS adjustment of about 201knots.
The SR71 also could do it. The sun sets/rises at about
The Concorde in MSFS by DC Designs is payware. IMO the price is reasonable for what you get, which is a semi realistic implementation which is more accessible rather than study level. My understanding is it flies reasonably close to the numbers, and it does have a fully stimulated fuel transfer system which is so important for that plane. Currently it’s retrofitted with the Asobo A320 MCDU but DCD have committed to building the proper Concorde INS this year which should be great.
It’s worth remembering that flying Concorde is a 3 person job so I doubt there’s many people who could actually use the thing if it was true study level. I’m with you on the A310, I love it, but it takes me over an hour just to get off the ground each time I fly it, with a study level Concorde I’m not sure I’d ever have time to get it into the air, even if it would get there quicker!
The Darkstar is really cool, I enjoy flying that, the bit that is off-putting is the fixed altitude ceiling in the sim.
Looks like you’re putting out some cool Darkstar content spread across a bunch of threads, maybe better to put it in one place to make it easier to find?
Why so long? Legitimate question but I just set some of the plane’s physical parameters using the tablet then plug in my route into the computer then seems pretty ready to go.
Is most the time in the start from cold & dark?
Originally I wanted to have topics for each thing such as take-off/landing and advanced flying etc. Heck today I just had my in-flight computer go out (user error) but had to troubleshoot that lol.
Another thing is if you drop from 200,000 feet with engines out how do you recover. Etc.
But I might combine them all into the “Manual” thread.
And I’m going to make a thread for “post your flights” and those 2 will probably combine almost everything I ended up wanting out of the previous threads.
Yes. If I’m flying the A310 then I’m only interested in doing it 100% or else I’ll just fly something else instead. It takes a while to plan a route with simbrief, run through all of the checklists in full, enter the complete route into the MCDU (usually find that some of the airways on the free to use simbrief don’t match what is in the sim and then have to improvise), etc. Clicking buttons is fun though, and there’s plenty of other options in the sim if I want to start C&D and be flying 2 minutes later.
Respect! I also want to be close to fidelity as possible but with limited time I haven’t gotten as deep as you have … yet.
I updated the thread to add my video. But the more flights I do with Darkstar, this is not even close to my favorite now.
