Day 2 Impressions

I see everything this morning, I can’t play anything. Even the world map appears to be broke. I’m sorry but I really don’t see how they can fix this mess quickly.

im in! im in!!!

happy birthday to me!

(it is actually my birthday…)

I loaded up fairly quickly and had a good flight. Everything looked good and smooth. Better experience today than yesterday.

Only 33 out of the 170 add ons I had in FS2020 showed up in FS2024 so far.

My joystick settings still refuse to save and I have to go and set things up each time.

It’s clear that the experience varies widely between users. Some have almost no issues. Some haven’t been able to load even once into a flight. Not a word from Microsoft or Asobo in terms of addressing the issues for the latter users. Did not expect things to be smooth on Day 1, but equally I don’t see an effort by Microsoft or Asobo to support paying customers.

Just flew 2h now,

Helicopter feels better this time.
All in all not that bad, guess they can improve it. For a first start, compared to 2020 at day 2 it’s an improvement

Performance is ok too, trying texture Quality High now, later…

No sound. Textures aren’t loading no matter how long I wait. Enormous load times. Zero flights accomplished so far!

My system is minimum specs: i7-8700k, nvidia 1050ti, 64gb DDR4 ram (recent upgrade from 16gb), 2tb SSD, internet download speeds in the range of 320mb/s with an ethernet connection rather than WiFi. edit - I am in the Seattle/Tacoma region.

I will be upgrading the GPU and CPU soon to get it to a mid-range performance level. Just don’t have the budget for a high-end system at this point.

I feel like getting my pennies back, nothing works - the planes are like boxes if I get into the game. TRAGEDY-garbage

First of all, I’m trying to forget yesterday’s disastrous day. I managed to complete my first flight 9 hours after launch (at 2 a.m.).

Short story: I feel like I’m inside an alpha-tech program; the software really seems to be on another level but is still in a very raw state. There’s still the awareness that they could have continued updating MSFS2020, which, to date, is truly rock solid.

I flew a VFR in Sicily, Palermo Airport is handcrafted, the geography is really on another level, and the city is in photogrammetry. These are all steps forward.

Now I’m struggling with the control mapping, which is anything but intuitive.

There’s a lot of work ahead, no denying that. But in my opinion, the software is promising.

ps: no fear to delete MSFS2020 atm;

I was looking forward to trying the sim yesterday. Didn’t happen. But I do think a lot of people are making a mountain out of a molehill here. I just quickly and calmly went back to FS2020, and will try 2024 again when confidence in it is higher.

Yes, they messed up. So what? They apparently worked well into the night last night, attempting to fix it. The issue is, people are very quick to bash Asobo when everything goes wrong; but far more reluctant to offer praise when things go right.

This isn’t a regular game. It’s a highly realistic simulator featuring the entire world in (mostly) high-res. What’s broken now, won’t remain so for long. But we’re seeing demands for refunds, compensation, resignations and God knows what else. It’s just too much.

Let’s give Asobo a week and see what they come up with. It’s really not a big deal. In the meantime, we have a fantastic back-up sim in the form of the 2020 version — which after four years doesn’t have anything to prove.

For those threatening to boycott the new sim — or the franchise in general — henceforth, I’m sure it can be done without fanfare.

Hallelujah, I just got my first flight in, after at least 20 tries since yesterday, from load failures, to stuff not downloading, to the sound not working. Loaded in cold and dark with the steam 172 only to discover the starter doesn’t work. Tried again with the 152 and it was a CTD. It worked again after the next try even though the door was janky, and I managed a trip around the pattern. Congrats to all the test pilots out there, and good luck to those still on the ground. We’re rooting for you.

Ground textures: broken
VR performance: worst
No optimisations done .

It was indeed a gimmick.

I haven’t tried a helicopter yet but looking forward to it!

I got it to work. And only benefit I saw are better trees and light effects.
Feel it’s like a beta version again…
We need one more year haha

Nothing?

Not even the post in the section header at the top of the forum where they’re working full time on solving server issues?

Ok.

I guess Asobo just all took launch day off.

I’ve had no problems today, after I gave up after 10h yesterday.
Fast loading times all day.
And I have to say Im impressed!
This sim has some mighty potential :sunglasses:

London - “high settings” on large 2k monitor.

I can now reliably log on. Nearly all my old aircraft are now in the Library, but the servers are clearly still struggling to serve.

Poor interior textures in C172 (switch labels are illegible) though G1000 screens are great.

Ground textures are variable. There’s bumpy dusty grass around KSBA runways, which also feels great.

But elsewhere there seems to be a weird unsolid ground which generates multiple artifacts if you land on it. I’m hoping all these things will improve, and of course can fall back to '20 if needed.

Is there a log book anywhere?

Just had a flight over rio, uploading right now, will post when it’s renderd.

MSFS2024 is simply amazing, I already have forgotten the launch day :

MSFS2024 is simply amazing, I already have forgotten the launch day. What is this, MSFS 1981?
