Just got the F-15 (so the new F-14 isn’t quite so lonely) and I like it very much. Feels fun to fly and the frames are nice and smooth. So kudos on a great plane!
Still, I have stumbled upon several issues during my first few flights. The pilot obscuring the view is one - which will be fixed with the next update as I have read above. The other two issues I have not seen mentioned above, unless my scatterbrain flew over something too quickly. Maybe somebody can provide some feedback:
ND Map Range
I am unable to change the range of the map on the display. I saw above that the button under the transponder panel is supposed to do that, but when I turn the relevant button, nothing happens. Am I doing something wrong?
Engine Shutdown
When I stop the fuel flow and disable the generators, I can hear the engines spool down drastically, but they will not stop running completely. What am I missing?
While I know how to work most GA planes and airlines well enough, I am no fighter specialist. Therefore any helpful response will be much appreciated.
Glad you like the Eagles! They’re due for an update soon, but in brief I don’t think we included a map range feature yet. Not sure about the spool down but I will add it to the list for the update, which will include the fully functioning nav suite and other features of the F-14, as well as activating the vats majority of cockpit switches, adding effects etc
I noticed the fuel tank readout on the F-15E looks rather imbalanced, with a lot more fuel in the right-hand tanks than the left-hand tanks. Am I reading the readout on the MFD wrong, or is it actually configured that way internally, but remains balanced because the tanks aren’t physically laid out the way they appear on the diagram, or some other reason?
Whole screenshot including the weight & balance dialog, shortly after using the ‘reset’ button to reset to defaults:
This is installed from Just Flight, which claims to be 2.0.5; I’ve also got the Marketplace version which claims to be 2.0.6 but didn’t double-check on it yet.
Mmmm, interesting, one for CodenameJack447 there as he’s Mr HTML Genius at the moment, I suspect it’s a minor coding error as the tanks must be balanced otherwise the aircraft would not fly very well.
The fuel tanks are divided into 5 sections: center 1, center 2, center3, external 1 and external 2, and that is what you are basically seeing in the diagram. If you change the IU of fuel from gallons to lbs you will see how they correspond.
Ok, I’m just surprised that the diagram looks like an airplane cross-section if it doesn’t correspond to any actual left-to-right progression. I looked for any existing examples of photos of this display on either the real aircraft or DCS or whatever but haven’t seen any yet.
(For instance the 747’s fuel diagram is much more related to the physical layout of the plane.)
The display doesn’t appear on the real aircraft as far as I know. We had to change displays to HTML in record time as SU5 was going to release without support for the XML gauges flight sim developers have used for the past 20 years. Asobo changed their minds at the last minute and added the support ( as without it, 99% of new products would have had no displays ) but HTML is the future so we stayed with it for the Eagles and Tomcats.
As we learn more about this new way of coding, so the displays will gradually change to more accurately reflect those of whichever aircraft is being modeled.
Just got this today. Enjoying it very much. More functionality than I was expecting, and the flight model seems great, very smooth. Also the texturing is really very good indeed.
Just wondering though, is there somewhere I can obtain the manual from? As I’m on the Xbox and Asobo/Microsoft in their infinite wisdom do not provide it. Thanks!
The manual will need updating, which will be done soon - the sim has changed so much in its first year that I’ve been holding off the manual updates until things settle down a bit. I’m planning to have it hosted on the Just Flight website like the F-14s, until Asobo get a PDF reader or something into the sim. If you ping me a DM over at Facebook on my page, I can send you the PDF ( can’t attach it here as the format isn’t supported )
Just wondering, the elevator controls are quite stiff. Is that a characteristic of the F-15? It could of course be my sensitivity settings but pitch on any other airctaft doesn’t feel like the F-15. Pitch trim is also quite stiff too. But, again, it might be me. Just curious.
If you mean the turning ratio, yes, it hardens based on mach and dynamic pressure. in fact the real f-15 has a CAS and FCS system that limits the flighstick movement to 1/2, starting at mach 1.2 and is further limited above mach 1.6 (but it is not a flybywire system). simulating that here is not possible since you will always have control of the entire stick, but the pitch, roll and yaw speed has been limited to minimize overg from those speeds. the f-15 has its maximum rate of movement at mach 0.6.
