DC Designs F-15

Just noticed that this is up on the SimMarket site.

Is it worth a shot?
How does it rate compared to IndiaFoxTecho MB-339 and Sim Skunkworks G-91

I just bought DC Designs F15, Really fun machine, but one thing makes me nauseous, it is the HUD display, it does not seem to be in 3D and emphasizes double vision in VR.
I fly a lot in DCS World, and always in VR. I have never experienced anything like this in DCS.
Sure, you can leave the HUD off, but I think that ruins the whole thing for me.
Is there a fix for this? Or is it on the to-do list at DC Design?
I can only assume that they tried their own product in VR …
My Spec is I9 9900K 5GHZ 32GB 3200mhz RAM and an Asus RTX 3080, and Reverb G2.

Just got bounced by another F15 over southern England, came out of nowhere. Be careful out there !

It doesn’t compare. The G91 and MB-339 are both superior in just about every way. The exterior model and textures are better, cockpit textures and details are better, and systems reproduction are better than the F-15. The F-15 isn’t BAD, especially after the latest update, but it does lag pretty significantly behind the G91 and MB-339. If you’re dying for a more modern sir superiority fighter, it’s fine. It’s fun to fly and most major issues have been ironed out. However when I sit in and fly the G91 and MB-399 I feel that both meet or exceed the stock Asobo aircaft in visual quality, while the F-15 looks more like it belongs in some sort of limbo between X-Plane 11 and MSFS in terms of look and feel.

I’d say that the MB339 is quite stellar. And the G91 close to that. There’s some things that lack detail and polish with the F-15, but… I still fly the F-15 more than those other two. It’s all relative and depends on what you want and expect.

If you want a supersonic, modern(ish) fighter in MSFS, there’s nothing else out that compares to the F-15. The Eurofighter looks sorely lacking in comparison.

And, maybe, someday, maybe in weeks not months. I’ll have a fancy, very sharp, high rez and detailed livery and fully layered paint kit to solve the jaggy textures when viewed very close on the F-15. Well, for the C anyways. And no promises. But I’m making some progress…

A lot of people might not even notice the details, but those all those close up hanger views will look a lot nicer with higher rez maps I think!

cheers for your honest answers there folks.

So, not in the same league as MB-339 but way better than Eurofighter. - sounds interesting. Might give it a look.

If you are a big fan of the F-15 in general and you aren’t broke, just buy it. Life is short! It’s a lot of fun! It’s improved a lot since release and it’s quite satisfying to fly overall, nit picks aside.

Thank you mate this is very helpful :+1:

I also fly in VR wherever possible. The HUD is as good as it gets right now in MSFS - there is no ability to collimate it as would be the norm in FSX / Prepar3D / DCS World etc. We’re waiting for Asobo to address this while also looking into using the parallax material, but without proper documentation it’s a tough job.

As soon as collimation is possible, I’ll update the Eagles for it. Right now I’m working on the F-14A Tomcat, and will be testing my hoped-for parallax fix there, keep your fingers crossed! :+1:

How is the 787 HUD working in VR? Even the 737Max has it going, presumably the 787 HUD? Will MS Asobo share thise details with developers?

Hey Dean, thanks for letting us know that when MSFS supports collimation you will update the Eagles. That’s huge. I know your hands are tied right now. Let’s hope they allow that soon - we have a bunch of aircraft with HUDs on the horizon.

HTML code, which we don’t know how to do yet and for which there are no instructions in the SDK at all. It’s going to take time for developers to catch up with these things, especially when we’re sort of groping about in the dark trying to work out how certain things are done.

Yeah I have some html knowledge with web applications and such, and reviewing the html for the asobo huds is pretty daunting. The file structure is very complex and has a crazy amount of external routed java script files and dependencies. It can be done as @DEAN01973 said, once more is known about the necessary file structure, variables, etc. Asobos JS coding was not set up to be reader friendly. They also have unnamed integers/decimals being used in their code just tossed into a line. varibaleB = (variableA * 12), good practice would be to actually make a variable with a meaningful name for the number 12 being used. Otherwise, no telling why they multiplied the variable by 12, why not 13? It just becomes a guessing game until they release more.

You are perfectly right,
that’s what I’m have been told (no to use constants in the code) aleady 30 years ago in Pascal and Ada programming courses. Unfortunately since then I didn’t improve my programming skills and have no experience in html or java.

From trying the 787 HUD in VR I remember it not actually working in VR. It doesn’t seem to project into space, it’s stuck on the glass and doesn’t seem to align with the outside world. It’s really difficult to explain but, for instance, the horizon line doesn’t actually stick to the horizon. So if you change your position in the plane, the horizon line changes position too. Almost like the display is moving in the opposite direction of where it should be moving. I found it incredibly disorienting and pretty much useless. Bear in mind, this is only in VR. It’s fine on a flat screen.

So right now HUDs in VR seem to be borked in general, unless there’s something I’m missing, but I certainly never had that problem in DCS.

I might have seen turning a setting from TA to DLAA to improve this…

A quick question, please.

When I am in external view my Nav route that I programed in the Main Map window doesn’t ahow on the compass. Is thia a known issue and can it be fixed
Thanks

Hello, that’s the same for me…

Calling Jack  Can you fix it?
