I’m considering buying the dc6 though since my computer is quite obsolete I am bit cautios (also since i read lot of posts on the fps drop on the dc6)
is the dc6 a lot more demanding than the fbw a320? On the FBW when parked in heavy traffic airports the cockpit camera movement is not that fluid but tolerable for sure (should be around 25fps then jumps to 30/35 when in flight)
thanks!
Maybe it’s not the A32NX then? Maybe it’s the traffic?
You can always test it, take an aircraft with very little systems info, like the C152.
Fly it from a very busy airport, then a not busy one, then a filed in the middle of nowhere.
Now do it with a twin engined like one of the DAs
Now with the stock A320
And finally with the A32NX
Write down the faps, and see if they are different - that will give you clues as to what to do.
If it always 25% less at major busy airports no matter what aircraft, you can turn off live traffic and turn down the auto generated ones.
If you are getting 30/35 in flight, I’m guessing you have either an older 8GB card, or one with around 4GB VRAM?
You could also maybe not say “quite obsolete” and just tell ppl what you have so they don’t have to guess :¬)
On my system Intel I5, RTX 2060 Super the DC6 is a considerable FPS eater! I ended up not flying it much…

it’s the a320 since with a 152 the fps are around 35/40 same airport, condition etc
was asking about the comparison since something similar was posted about the crj “if you’re good with the FBW then you’ll be good with crjs” and thought
didn’t write down the specs since was more curious about the actual avg fps drop from those two planes (if present)
In the DC6 it’s important to enable dev mode and enable the option ‘use nanoVG for XML gauges’. It took my fps from 28-30 to 50-55. I get similar numbers in the FBW, 40-50 fps on a 2060 and 6700k playing with normal resolution 1920x1080

oh ok, so it’s a super effective mode, nice to know
I did a little testing after SU8, and found that in cold & dark mode, the 320NX is around 2 or 3 frames lower than the stock 320. They are both a couple of frames below the C152 and the CJ4. That was at Heathrow and Charles De Gaulle airports, with using two different gates at each.
At KHAE (in the middle of the flat bit of the USA) the stock 320 was the same faps as the 152 and the CJ4. THe 320NX dropped 2 faps.
Once the engines are started, they all drop 2-3 faps, but the A32NX falls down another 2 or 3 faps - from 32 to 28.
Even using two different gates at each airport gave drops … gate C3 at CDG was 6 faps higher for the C172 than B5, while the A320 stock was only 2 higher. Going from 316 at Heathrow to 311 dropped 6 faps for the stock A320, but only 2 for the A32NX.
A great tip, and hopefully once we get it implimented in the PC version, it will make things much better …

I’m sorry, you may want to reconsider using faps for fps
I’m assuming they’re the same thing?

Anyone know if you need to leave Dev Mode enabled after setting this ‘use nanoVG for XML guages’, or can you enable dev, make the change from the menu, and then exit Dev Mode?
Not a huge deal but I typically like to leave Dev Mode off just so the sim will log my flights (not that it matters a whole lot since it seems like every update I lose my log and progress anyway…
Thanks!

I was also curious about this and upon a brief test it seems turning off dev mode resets the aircraft and turns off nanovg unfortunately. Back to the performance I saw without the option checked. I do miss my logbook quite a bit. For what it’s worth the tablet inside the dc6 seems to keep good track of airframe hours even if you switch liveries. Definitely wished the logbook still worked with dev mode.

Thanks for checking into this @StewartLapp. I tried it today as well and seemed to notice the cockpit resetting when I left Dev Mode. Ah well.
