That’s exactly what I do in descent but stars aren’t always correct I rarely use them anymore. Sometimes the plane won’t follow them and decides to take a shortcut and leaves me to high. I’ll then takeover myself and follow it. I usually won’t add an approach until I get it from atc. Even then I check the atis to check for wind speeds. And I don’t add vias either as it will usually be the correct via ATC gives you anyway. If you don’t want the approach request another. Always remember you’re the pilot.
