When selecting a way point to fly direct to via the DIR page of the MCDU the plane correctly flies direct.
However on reaching the way point for some reason the route resets and the plane turns back to the departure airport. The only way around this is to then select the next way point direct and so on.
This also happens when changing the flight plan en route eg. Selecting an arrival runway and STAR. When selecting the change the plane then turns back to the departure airport to start the route again.
I have tried two option with the same result. Planning the route in the flight planner and importing it to the fmc. Also inputting the route manually via the mcdu as i read that the flight planner may cause issues. The same problem with direct to or flight plan change happens.
Switch to the latest experimental build of the FBW A320, which has a custom flight plan manager which has more or less fixed these weirdnesses (as well as hundreds of other improvements to the realism of the A320). You’ll find STARs in particular to be much more reliable and you can actually remove errant waypoints from the flightplan now.
You can install the three different versions of FBW from their excellent installer, so no need to mess about unzipping files.
Ok Thanks, was just trying to give the defaults a chance before going third party. Should have known better after near enough 25 years flight simming At least it looked nice even if it was un flyable.
OK so on a basic level yes it was perfectly flyable, other than not wanting to climb at any decent rate above 10,000 ft. But in the online world of vatsim, to not be able to fly direct or make any changes at all to the flight plan yes did make it unusable, if that is a better way to describe it.
But even flying offline, to not be able to change a flight plan without the plane turning back to the airport would get pretty tiring.
Apologies I will choose my words more carefully in future.
No decent climb rate above FL100? What climb speeds are you using?
270/.73 should work quite nicely.
Above ~FL250 starts to noticeable drop below the RW values, even at ISA conditions.
