Just went for a quick flight and agree, the improvements are noticeable and most welcome. Thanks Asobo. Also noticed the touchdown smoke effect is much nicer and we finally get the light back in the door open caution alarm. Yep. Overpowered, but if it was between this and last version that feels like it’s running on one engine, I’ll take this version thank you. Autothrottle, while far from perfect still, also works better. As I wanted something less complex for at least one tubeliner, that doesn’t take forever to go from C&D to airborne, this fills the need for me quite nicely. Yes, there is the wonderful FBW version too but at present I don’t use it.
Feels like a fighter jet now unfortunately. They’ve made the takeoffs massively unrealistic now. It just constantly accelerates
The A320 is very good now. First, the sound has been fixed. Second, the autopilot climbs now at a very good rate. I just finished a flight with 39000 ft cruise altitude and the aircraft had absolutely no problems reaching that altitude. The interior modeling has also become better.
There are still issues which I hope will be fixed in the future: light switches don’t respond well to the virtual cursor (you always have to switch them twice to move), there’s no V1 callout, no “minimums” callout, and the weather radar doesn’t work.
I thought the weather radar was fixed.
Does it not work at all?
I’ve never known the default A320 to ever have weather radar. It has terrain radar and that will only show up if you’re close to elevation under a certain amount of ft.
WX radar works but your Terrain Radar must be turned off.
BTW when you first start your flight toggle radar SYS off then on and turn Mode to WX+T
An aircraft weather radar works the same way the Air Traffic Control system does , except the signals it sends bounces off precipitation instead of an aircraft. The intensity of precipitation can be depicted using either red, yellow, or green colors on the display screen.
Hello All,
yes my A320 is way better since latest update. Had one flight so far . Engine noise is much better in the cockpit and a better noise on take off power, though it has lost the engine spooling up noise a bit when starting, this was a low frequency hum from the speakers behind me. Weather radar has started scanning again it had stopped and has always worked since the start. Plane tracked properly, the only issue I had was not catching the glide slope, so did a manual approach., hope to be ok on the next flight. My only wish would be wipers wiping the rain off the window at low speed but maybe to hard to achieve? Well done to all.
I tried this but still nothing appears there for me. WX brightness is 100%, too.
There has to be participation for it to show, check real weather radar fly in or out of it and check.
Does it matter if you are above the clouds, would it still show up?
It shouldn’t matter if you are above or below if there is precipitation it should show.
I took off from rainy Manchaster but nothing showed. I’ll continue testing.
Okay now it displays but doesn’t update. It’s just the same colourful blob on the screen that doesn’t move or change, no matter how far I fly. Just a static “background” on the ND. I guess it’s not fixed after all, has to manually turned in and out to reflect the actual situation.
This - on default dreamliner 787 also when i changed range / zoom it went away.
Where about do you enable weather radar in the a320, or is it automatically on providing terrain radar is off, also where is the WX brightness adjustment?
Thanks
It’s gone much too far the other way now. The thing takes off like a rocket after AP engaged.
did a couple more flight after the first test
now it climbs for sure but feels even more broken than pre patch now
- climbs way too fast now (which it’s probably better than before but still)
- engine are way overpowered (cruising at 66% n1 at 0.78 mach !)
- the results are also an increased capability in total flight hours (way too much)
- ap when engaged banks very hard right or left (opposite from nav direction than back to correct heading)
The only positive note is that constraints actually work now, but considering the time spent from the bug logging to the “fix” (which ironically seems rushed) i now consider this plane doomed
I’m definitely glad to see improvements being made to the A320 finally. When the sim first launched, I was only flying the default A320 then switched to the FBW mod after I was having autopilot and climbing issues as mentioned above that seemed to last all the way up until now.
While the default will never be as good or in-depth as the FBW mod, at least the default may be flyable again finally. I just wish they would fix the harsh autopilot banking and the “rocket climbing.” IIRC, it seemed like the default A320 climbed too fast early on and then seemed to struggle to climb after. I wish they could just hit that sweet spot and get it right.
All in all, now I can’t wait to get back into the default A320 and give it a look for myself. While the mod is really realistic and nice, I just don’t really have the desire or need to learn all about the A320 in terms of a “study level” aircraft model. I’m sure others would agree there. A more basic, somewhat realistically flyable A320 works for me.
I’d be curious to hear your impressions going from the FBW to the default and what features you miss from the FBW. Being on xbox I’ve not had access to FBW and post SU8 I’ve found the A320 does everything I’d expect and want for my purposes. I don’t know what important features I’m missing not having the FBW. I mainly fly GA planes anyway, but do like to fly the A320 (and 787) occasionally.
- mcdu unit completely operable and functioning
- each ecam pages work
- importing flight plan from simbrief
- correct power setup (taxing on idle, climb power etc)
- basically all switches works
- auto land capable (and works very well)
just to name a few
If you can start from cold and dark the default one you can hop on the fbw with no issues to be fair (since it does also come with a superb checklist)
there is really zero competition and the “friendlyness” of the a320 is there
also is much more flyable in terms of control (the default one is not that precise while on the fbw you can really feel the fly by wire controls)
