Firstly I’d like congratulate Asobo/ MS on the 40th Year Anniversary update, super generous with the aircraft and improved sim physics. I appreciate this game is a work in progress and feel we are really starting to significant improvements in performance and complexity of meet you at meteorological systems, however I was a little disappointed in the poor implementation of VR zoom feature in some of the aircraft, it raises the question regards just how much focus is given to VR as the poor zoom implementation is immediately obvious within minutes of entering the cockpit.
afaik there is a VR team but i think it’s a super small team who likely is trying to work on VR. But its slow going and we have no real insight to their work flow.
VR is not like programming a pancake game. Just because you have developers that can create a fleshed out advanced VR game all on their own doesn’t mean they should.
Be thankful you even have VR in the first place. The game wasn’t supposed to have it. Shoulda been there at the beginning. It turned people off
There is no VR team, they were integrated into the main dev team according to a Q&A earlier this year. Whilst it’s great we have VR (and I for one am very thankful), it’s incredibly disappointing that they continually introduce new bugs & issues and make little to no attempt to fix them.
I fully agree with both points of your post :
What MS/Asobo have achieved, in particular with the world and weather system, is remarkable and the continuous work on new aircraft and mechanics such as helicopter physics and dynamic thermals is fantastic - truly going “above and beyond” expectations, and to release this for free is a great gift for simmers to celebrate 40 years of MSFS. Thank you to everyone involved, from the devs to the managers securing budgets for this !
I do agree that the VR side is very neglected. I think the quantity of obvious VR bugs that have been included in (mandatory update) release code on so many occasions suggests that there is not even someone consistently testing in VR for a few hours, let alone a dedicated team! I have often tried to identify issues and post about them in the forums, but when there is no acknowledgement of bugs even being noted it can feel a bit pointless. The bugs are often relatively minor things that would be quick fixes, but have a big impact on VR users.
I don’t think MS/Asobo necessarily needs to see it as a big investment in a VR team as the mechanics and compatibility is already there, and the problems as you say are usually usability or minor (but obvious) bugs. For example I think a big improvement could come from just committing to having a couple of people run some FULL flights in different aircraft and scenarios with and without VR controllers - or even just someone regularly monitoring and liaising with forum posts / bug reports with a mandate to raise and fix them, I think many of us are very happy to try to help identify and diagnose these issues.
I am sure this will be resolved at some point and hopefully soon, many of us (including some of those currently battling for the magnificent title of “oldest flight simmer”!) find the immersion of VR to be such a game changer, for many it is the future+present of simming and by far the best way to be immersed in the world that Asobo has created

I watched the latest dev interview which included the roadmap for 2023, I could be wrong wrong but unfortunately I don’t think there was a mention of VR in the whole discussion. At the moment it feels like we are losing things from VR (bugs on sim updates, new official planes not having controller support) rather than gaining them . Please Asobo continue to work on VR!
I sincerely hope they give VR at least a little bit of love in 2023!
At the very least, Asobo, please do NOT let any NEW bugs slip into VR because there is no way I could go back to 2D flying.
