Deluxe upgrade pricing

Today it’s cheaper to buy premium deluxe from the ms store or steam than to buy an upgrade in the marketplace.

Yes, the other topic was closed for use of sarcasm, so I did another without sarcasm for you to enjoy.

Seems backwards to me…

I don’t understand that at all. But with games such as this with ‘tiers’ and add-on packs/cars/planes after years and years of racing games, I just went straight to Premium. Usually you loose a decent amount buying ‘car packs’ later, but NOTHING like this ridiculous pricing structure for MSFS.

It would be better if these addons could be purchased separately on the marketplace now. At least the upgrade price should be less than the purchase price of these versions.

It almost locks out any users that bought the standard version from upgrading, as I’d imagine very few would pay that much for the aircraft/airports included. Especially if it’s cheaper to buy the whole thing again.

But perhaps we’re wrong.

Looks like the Premium Upgrade is for upgrading
a Deluxe Edition to a Premium Deluxe Edition.

And the Premium Deluxe Upgrade is for upgrading
a Standard Edition to a Premium Deluxe Edition.

  1. I had bought the initial Deluxe edition.
Then recently, due to the sale prices, I bought the initial Premium Deluxe.
The initial Deluxe Premium was bought okay from Microsoft.

  2. But, it would not download.
To save money, I bought the edition without the Xbox Game Pass
since I already had the Gamepass with FS2020 Deluxe Edition.
You have to have a Game Pass that is purchased and not the one that
    comes with FS2020.

  3. Got refund from Microsoft.

  4. Purchased the Premium Deluxe upgrade.
(Note that I have the Deluxe Edition but the Premium Deluxe upgrade is less expensive than the Deluxe upgrade.)
    It downloaded and installed immediately.

The Editions without the Game Pass are less expensive.

The Xbox Game Pass is $9.99 or $16.99 / month.
Lets you play many, many games & FS2020.

If you don’t have a purchased Game Pass like me, you can only
use the upgrade path.

If you have a purchased Game Pass, you can buy the less expensive
initial Edition that does not have the Game Pass included.

Correct me if I am wrong about this.

It’s always been that way. I had to pay like $90 extra to upgrade in the marketplace on top of the $60 I had paid for the basic. That was in 2020 when MSFS came out.

It’s always better to go to deluxe from the beginning than trying to upgrade

At least the upgrade price should be less than the purchase price of these versions.

Yes I agree. It’s fair to have the straight-to-deluxe cheaper than regular + upgrade. It’s not really great to have the upgrade cost more than straight-to-deluxe.

I think the idea behind it is that you’re not getting the bundle discount you’re getting when you’re buying the full version right away.

They’re absolutely locking out standard users from upgrading with the pricing as it is now. If they sold planes individually or sold the upgrade for just the price difference, I’d have paid them for that. But as it is, they aren’t making that money from me. It’s a bad strategy for them in my opinion.
