On further investigation, my problem with the miniflo knob in MSFS2024 seems unrelated to any bindings. With all MSFS bindings zero’d out, and Lorby’s Axis and Ohs not running, knob still can’t be moved clockwise. The animation starts, but then immediately snaps back to the fully counterclockwise position. Confirmed I’m using 1.5.1 as well. Open to any ideas anyone has to fix this.
Just to clarify - you are running the mod in MSFS 2024 and the other mod enhancements (e.g. fuel booster pumps, continuous adjustment on oil shutter levers, engine behavior such as overboosting issues, etc.) work for you?
I can bring up the mod in the sim (MSFS 2024) and it shows the cosmetic changes (fuel booster pump switches instead of generator switches, elevator trim indicator shows white bar for neutral trim range), but none of the other modified functions work for me. For example, the oil shutter levers are either fully cold or fully hot.
If, indeed, the mod functions are working for you, I wonder if the base Carenado version could be different. I have the Aviator edition of MSFS 2024, so I wonder if the Carenado Beech 18 version in 2024 was modified whereas if I didin’t have the Aviator edition, I would have the 2020 version.
I’ve tried it two ways. Before MSFS2024 had it online, I dragged the directory from my MSFS2020 folder. I didn’t get as far as looking at the miniflo though.
Now, using the gamepass base version of 2024, with the streamed version of the mod, I see plenty of Denarq features, and the miniflo works as described in the manual with the buttons, with the restriction that the knob only stays in one position.
I guess the next step is putting the 2020 version back in the community directory and seeing if the functionality is any different.
Ok, still on msfs2020. I fried my engines and follow the reset procedure for engine wear in the manual. The LEFT cabin heat switch on my end has no clickspot, hence I can not fix my engines. What am I doing wrong?
Since V1.5, procedure for engine reset has changed. Now, you have to use “miniflow” instrument in maintenance mode.
See manual (v1.5) pag. 30 for miniflow and pag 34 for maintenance mode.
tnx, weirdly enough my manual was an older one, apparently not unpacked correctly. got it sorted, thanks!
Congrats @AlexBap8588 for the 2024 silver award in the piston category.
Congrats …so Denarq is FS 2024 compatible?
I am not sure if others have noticed this or not but I have noticed what seems to be a lack of elevator authority on landing. I come in on final at around 100, over the fence at 90 and try to touchdown at around 80. Every time I land, with very stable approaches and consistent speeds I run out of elevator too early and hit harder than I should. I always try for a nice tail low wheel landing to keep the rudder in the slipstream but I can’t get to the correct deck angle due to losing elevator travel.
Last night I decided to dig around in the flight model file (something I have never really done before) and found the entry for the up and down limits on the elevator. I am assuming these are listed in degrees in the code and if I remember right the up limit was 25 and down limit was either 30 or 35. I went and looked up a maintenance manual for the D18 and found the real travel limits. For a D18S it lists the up travel at 30 and the down travel at 25. I changed these values and it seemed to help on my brief test flight. I will try another flight again to confirm but I think these numbers need to be changed to fly right. I am by no means a modder, this is the first time I have edited a flight model, but I am pretty sure this is what it should be.
The flight I did complete last night was fantastic as always, I really love this mod. My first takeoff was met with an engine failure so I managed to do an emergency landing. New engines and back in the air for a short 40 minute flight with a perfectly executed ILS approach using the autopilot down to 500 feet above the ground. Such an immersive aircraft with this mod.
Good info, thanks. Make sure you’re also adjusting your elevator trim as you descend, too (you may already be doing this).
Hi MaverickKing57.
That loss of elevator at low speeds is by design, and I intended it to be so in my mod. Modeling these kinds of uniqueness was always one of my goals for this mod.
In this video, you can see at minute 14:20 that he is talking about the differences between the Beech 18 and the Electra, and the behavior you experienced was exactly as expected, just like in the real plane.
Yes I do this in every plane I fly, especially in the real world. Trim for hands off at the speed you want and adjust power as needed whether you’re high or low on final.
I understand that it was by design but it seemed to happen too early to me. I still lost elevator after changing the limits but it happened just a little bit later and a little slower which allowed to have the correct angle to perform a good wheel landing. I see what you’re talking about in the video and it makes sense especially since there is a big wing blanking the elevator during landing. I think after changing the numbers I was losing the elevator at close to 80 or 85mph rather than right at 90mph. The effect is still there but feels more in tune with what would happen on a real plane. Then again I could be wrong but this felt more natural and closer to what I have experienced in flying real airplanes. Thanks for all the hard work you did on this mod, I am by no means trying to criticize the work you put in, I just wanted to share in case others were experiencing the same thing.
MaverickKing57,
Critics and suggestions about my mod are always welcome. It means that people care and, like me, want a better plane.
Now, about the behavior. Perhaps you are correct, but I wanted this behavior to be more aggressive than it usually is in other planes. This is a characteristic of the Beech 18, as reported by many pilots. Because of this, the usual procedure for landing is that you have to “fly it” until touchdown rather than “let it” land on the runway.
That said, perhaps this behavior could be fine-tuned.
Once again, feedback and suggestions are always welcome!
I absolutely care, this is one of my favorite airplanes in the sim and with your mod it is the most enjoyable for me. Every time I get back into it I enjoy it.
Yes, flying it to touchdown is correct procedure for wheel landings in all tail draggers, it is how I do it in the cub I fly as well. I would imagine that, much like other large taildraggers (DC-3), you would not want to attempt a three point landing. I will look at it again at some point and see if perhaps it is my technique that is causing my issue. That way we can rule out a “loose nut behind the wheel”.
I just discovered that YourControls v2.8.4 added support for the Denarq mod way back in March of last year. It covers many more variables than I had put in. My brother and I tried it on a flight today from Cheyenne WY to Denver CO and it worked great! We could even put out the tables in the passenger cabin and the other one could see it.
