Welcome to the 13th flight in Gunpilot’s new SHORT series of Challenging flights, carrying on from the past over 4 years of events (200 flights) that ran for 3 hrs week in, week out.
Flight Details:
The skies above Denver roared to life as two elite teams of Bell 407 helicopter pilots—Team Rotor Rage and Team Blade Bandits—launched into an aerial scavenger hunt unlike anything the city had ever seen. Their mission? To race across the Mile High City in the inaugural Denver Heli Shopping Race, pinpointing iconic retail giants like Macy’s, JC Penny, and the elusive Amazon, while also spotting other nominated landmarks, billboards etc that Gunpilot has added along the way. With rotors spinning and egos flaring, each team zipped through the skyline, dodging pigeons, selfie drones, and the occasional rogue frisbee from a rooftop yoga class. The pilots’ pre-flight practice in their Bell 407s paid off big time—those hours spent hovering over parking lots and pretending the local Taco Bell was the Eiffel Tower had sharpened their landmark-spotting instincts to near-superhuman levels.
But this wasn’t just a game of sightseeing—it was a full-throttle, laugh-out-loud, adrenaline-fueled race with three landing challenges thrown in to test their mettle. The winning team would be the one that nailed every location and identified it correctly, aced the landings, and reached their final helipad destination. As the helicopters danced through the Denver skyline, the city watched in awe, laughter, and mild confusion, wondering if this was a new extreme sport or just another day for these wild-eyed rotor jockeys.
