Developer stream Dec 4. What do you want to know from the devs? (unofficial)

I enjoyed both the AN-2 and AN-225, when might we see more Antonov aircraft in MSFS 2024?

Will the ES-30 get a modelled passenger cabin at some point?

Not suggesting you roll over and agree with everything, but if your goal is to get ignored and just add to the noise, then keep at it. If you want real answers and solutions, well that was the point of my post.

ALL: Stay on topic please of “What do you want to know from the devs?” for the next developer stream. :+1:

For me it’s quite simple.

When are you going to give us everything you showed us before the launch, without having to struggle to explain it?

I agree with Hester and want to apologize to CaseBug. These frustrations can be a little
 frustrating.

I just want them to acknowledge the problems and as others have said, just tell us when we can expect the simulator that we want. That’s it.

Since this is a thread asking me what I want to have answered, and not what I think they might answer, I would like to know if they can share a more detailed fix roadmap, showing what is the focus of each patch release. For example, one patch is focused on career fixes, one focused on CTD’s, one focused on stock plane systems, one focused on 2020 add-on compatibility, etc

I would prefer focused patch planning, and not having a little bit of everything thrown into a big pile. Annoying bugs seem to linger forever when it’s a free-for-all.

(Take two at trying to reply to this. The first one looked like it went to BigCow74 for some reason. Okay, uggh, take two didn’t work either. Discourse, what’s going on? This is the second time. I don’t know why this is happening , but I’m trying to reply to this post.)

Unfortunately, not yet. I got my LCE the other day, and I hemmed and hawed on returning it because Aerosoft won’t accept an open package if I decided to return it. I was going to listen to the dev stream before making a decision, but since that got pushed back a week, I decided to suck it up and open it, but I haven’t gotten there yet.

Anyway

I’m going to try and summarize what you said, just to make sure we’re on the same page. It sounds like the summary is, “A lot of Marketplace products doesn’t work, so we’re shutting it down so your add-ons don’t mess up the sim.” (If I didn’t get that right, please let me know.)

But what I don’t understand is, the Marketplace is where you buy stuff. My Library is where you activate and deactivate stuff. If a developer goes through their product in 2024 and certifies that it looks good and works as intended, I’m not sure how their ability to sell that on the Marketplace is tied to the ability to turn things on and off. (Maybe once I get into the sim, it’ll make more sense.)

That’s right. The ability to delete content is not in the sim yet (it’s coming in the Dec 9 update supposedly). So, if a package causes a problem for a user, they can’t get rid of it. And they don’t want people purchasing things in the Marketplace for 2024 yet. 2020 addons are too broken at the moment. There’s a pretty long list of issues, albeit minor ones, but, they need to be corrected.

There are no certified products yet except the default ones. Asobo is still working with developers to understand all the issues, and developers are making fixes to their products.

Since the SDK was only released on the 19th, there are no outside 2024 products yet. The changes to the SDK are massive. Take a read through how aircraft are constructed now. I’m not saying the changes were wrong to make. I can see why they changed things. But, the consequence is that, just like the concepts of 2020 that made it impossible for FSX gauges to work in the sim, the changes of 2024 make it so 2020 products don’t work well either. There’s a lot of issues that they’re trying to squash so people can use their 2020 products. Things like dim displays and many other things.

To counter that point of view, the Carenado 2020 products work well in the sim, it doesn’t seem like they’ve been upgraded yet (if they ever will be). They’re using DDS textures. So, my comment above makes it sound worse than it is. But, livery packs, Oh my, that’ll be a disaster when they’re allowed into the sim, unless the developers modify them to work in the 2024 ecosystem. They may be waiting for that, too.

As a side note, the changes to the organization of the library makes it no fun anymore for me to collect planes and peruse my library. I’ve expounded upon this all over the place. Probably too much. I don’t like how planes are grouped by developer, I don’t like how developers name themselves as the manufacturer. It’s just a commercial product now, and not a place for me to enjoy the aircraft and flying, at least at the moment. All that can change if they give us access to ALL aircraft.cfg and livery.cfg files. But, we’ll see. I think for some reason they want to protect those files, probably commercial reasons.

Part of it is that people who aren’t part of the culture are making decisions about how things should work. And, I get it, Microsoft has to make money of this. Like any decision, there’s no “wrong” decision. But there are consequences to every decision.

If we can get access to the aircraft.cfg and livery.cfg for all planes, it’s possible I’ll be able to fix the issues I’m having with the library, which is largely due to incomplete data (icao_model in particular), and incorrect data, which i’ve spent years correcting up to this point. Given we don’t have access to the files and the planes are encrypted at the moment, I’m up the creek without a paddle.

I personally don’t need to know the why’s of the issues.

What I want to know is: what is being done to fix them and in what approximate order the fixes will come?

Don’t need exact dates or timelines as I’d rather these slip than rush to introduce a fix that causes new issues.

Also will the beta program return for these patches, like we had for recent SUs for 2020.

There are two upcoming updates announced so far, a small one next week for some critical things, and another larger update currently scheduled for Dec 9.

I think at this point, no, there won’t be a beta for the time being, because a lot of the functionality being released was originally planned for the launch candidate, but wasn’t finished in time. Things like the VFS mirror, the ability to delete addons from your library, and more. Then I imagine they’ll be coming in two week intervals over the next couple more months. There’s a lot of work to do.

Which issues in particular are you concerned with?

At this stage we should really focus on the base sim, DX12 support, VRAM issues, stability, performance, weather.

Not being able to remove streamed scenery is already confirmed to be linked to the marketplace being disabled, so this will be fixed. The whole launch thing is now not relevant anymore.

Smaller items can be fixed later. “Button X on airplane Y isn’t working” or “Tree on the runway at airport Z” are less important than the sim having a CTD every second flight.

I understand everyone has their own small issues, but we all benefit from a fast and stable sim. This VRAM problem and the airport lights at night being 10x too bright are the 2 issues with the most votes here that affect the most people. We should really expect Asobo fo fix these before christmas so we at least can do flights without issues and on reasonable graphics settings.

MS/Asobo promised 10 years support for MSFS. Is there are similar announcement for MSFS 2024?

Yes, all that beta testing would have revealed all the CTDs and missing planes in time for release

When are they planning on opening up the sim for open-source modders, both similar to MSFS and how they promised (World Hub)

That there still isn’t a streamlined way to make and submit fixes to make airports to make them match irl charts, which thanks to the illustrious competitor is industry standard, is pitiable.

Just compare the LTFM from there to the LTFM in FS24. Sorry for using a minnow with only 700 departures a day

They did open a world hub beta last year for 2020. It worked okay, but it’s not what I’d call streamlined (the SDK is kind of kludgy) and imo didn’t go far enough in some aspects. They said they’d do the same next year for 2024, but with career mode thrusting folks into airports that are clearly not ready, it’s needed a lot sooner.

I have a few questions.

  1. 747 after all updates was working fine in MSFS2020. Why is it broken in MSFS2024? Why did you not use that updated version as a solid base to build on further? Why did you try to reinvent the wheel?
  2. at a lot of major airports there are taxiway and runway bumps, bridges we can fall through - did you even test these airports (for example KLAS, EDDM)?
  3. Why default cockpit views in airliners are too low =unrealistic?
  4. Why are there so many issues with setting up HW controllers like Honeycomb bravo, Thrustmaster joysticks, tca throttles and tca yoke? Did you even test these devices before MSFS2024 was released?

As i said i thought it was 5
i know there was one su which particularly hit my performance hard.

I now see in streaming the data that mu performance is different almost every time i load the sim. GA aircraft are playable for me, but kost airliners i tried my fps just drops like a rock.
And esp hitting the menu/settings and going back into the cockpit hits the sim

I would love to see the patch annouced for this week being released before the Dev stream.
Otherwise I guess a lot of topics will be just washed away be stating this will be part of the patch.
Would be great to discuss the results and performance after this second patch and give a more detailed insight on what is planed for the patch scheduled for the week of the 9th.

Edit: Do not spend to much time on the past. Water under the bridge! Just show action and how the sim will improve over the next few weeks. I do not need to know the plans for the next Dune DLC
Unless there is a TopGun 3 in the making you are aware of. I would love to see a 62-70 year old Tom Cruise flying a fighterjet

What I really want to know is how they can get the development tools so wrong ?

From PMDG
"When MSFS2020 released back in August of 2020, we found that the platform was intended to support C++/WASM development, but in the rush to get the platform over the finish line, numerous blockers existed that prevented us from being able to work with the platform immediately upon release.
(“They forgot to include the appropriate dev-tools again
”).

As you read in the first half of this weekend’s update: MS/Asobo forgot to include the developer tools needed by C++/WASM developers
 Again. "

This sim was released without any consultation with developers it seems, and without listening to the community, there own statement a Simulator for the community is hogwash

How do you know it doesn’t function?
I think it does - but is there a way for me to know for sure? I don’t know.

I do know that my 100 GB cache file can be found in the custom folder I made for it, and that the file itself is 100 GB in size.

Also, it seems to take a fair bit of time when I spawn in a new location (presumable as scenery data is being downloaded) but much less time if I respawn in the same location. Isn’t that what the Rolling Cache is for?
