Devils Tower Landing Challenge

While flying around Devils Tower I began to wonder if I could possibly land an aircraft on its almost 1 acre semi-flat surface. I loaded the Cub, approached with full flaps down, touched down just a hair above stall speed, and …

…I slowly sank beneath the surface of the tower and became suspended a few yards below. I always felt like something strange was happening there!!  :alien:

Hey, very nice job!!! I haven’t re-tried this since MS released the update, but now I know what I have to do later!

Great challenge

Can’t get this quite right YET… trying hard !!! btw the object looks strange if you fall down from the side, see below, chips seem to fall off (I did some damage ? )

Was that an action shot, or did you stop that way and the game not chastise you?

Wow, that must have been quite the fall! That’s a good distance down! lol are those chips from your aircraft or the mountain??

I run my games on a HP Envy laptop, that does not even have a printscreen key… I was stationary on the ground upside down, put camera outside and started the capture program to select a part of the scene.

Default damage setting is on, which ends the flight immediately. When you fly without the damage simulation, you can “land” anywhere and look around. Sometimes even take off again after a crash, but that depends on… what’s on the ground. Some objects like stone buildings are solid. Rocks are solid, trees and most fences are not solid. It also depends on the quality of the artwork. Some free airports you can download online are only a facade construct: if you land and proceed (without damage) you can taxi through the buildings.

I think these “chips” occur, because my location is actually somewhere halfway inside the rock and not beside it. As a result, some parts of the rock shade properly… while other parts (in this case most parts) are rendered transparent. This game is intended to fly over things, not walk near them… I suppose…
