Did I see an unowned AI AFR A320 at KLAX yesterday?

I know I’m not going nuts?? I own the beautiful 8k Air France A320 neo 80th Anniversary, and I own the Montreuil version that has the blue logoed sharklets, but I don’t own any other Air France and I saw a parked standard A320 with white sharklets at a gate at KLAX yesterday (one without any reg numbers and mine have numbers painted on them).

Are they experimenting from server side with AI? I know Jorg mentioned they were going to be trying to bring in some AI and working with the countries where the expansion was happening (France coming up soon…)?? Is it even possible from the server side?

I’ve checked my Community Folder - I do not have a plain jane Air France livery.

Already, to find an Air France A320 at Klax is to be crazy.

Nah, it’s probably because the traffic model used as a static parked aircraft is using a simpler model. Which disregards the wing and engine portion for performance consideration. So since it only uses the fuselage texture, it looks like you’re only getting the plain Air France livery.

Interesting…I didn’t know the AI models excluded the wings, etc. I assumed an AI plane was a complete A/C. @ImDrako2132, under the situation we all know to be the craziness in general with AI, I get it - this wasn’t that…I fully expect to see the models I have populated all over the place willy-nilly; I do not expect to see an A/C I do not have in my library except the ones Asobo produces.

There’s also LOD involved as well. The further your camera is from the traffic model, the lower detail the sim will render to save FPS. This includes ignoring the wings and engine textures as well. That’s why sometimes you see textures “pop out” and “pop in” depending on the direction your camera is moving.

Try to use the drone camera and zoom in to the parked AI plane. And you should see it’s using the full textures including the engines and the winglets. But zoom enough far away, and the textures should pop and change to a simpler texture, which may ignore the textures from the winglets and the engines.

You shouldn’t be expecting exactly the same full texture. Because when the sim loads 50 parked airplanes and if all of them renders 8K textures, your GPU will start burning. Lol. That’s why they implement this LOD system. So that you only get more details for those objects that are closer to you. The further it is, the sim switches to a simpler model that uses only a fraction of the processing power to render. Hoping that you wouldn’t notice it as much.

That being said. I did make some adjustments to my official contents folders. For example, the A320 AirTraffic textures. I replace them with OneWorld, Star Alliance, and Skyteam liveries. That way, default parked A320 will at least always show one or more of these airline alliances in every airports I go to. That way, no more blank generic liveries at the parking space.

And I also set up to disable the Generic models as generic traffic and instead force the sim to use the A320 AirTraffic model as Generic. That way all the airline liveries that I downloaded, given the right ICAO code will spawn both as a parked aircraft at the gates. But also as moving live traffic with the same airline ICAO code. All as an A320 regardless of what their actual aircraft type is.

yes, I was talking in real life, to find an Air France A320 at KLAX would be crazy

That’s just because the sim populates the parking spots by picking from your livery collection and assign them randomly.

At least, until we get a much more detailed parking codes in the airports itself that we can match with the liveries. Then technically it should be able to populate only the correct liveries in specific parking spots. And therefore, the entire airport.

Like for example, if KLAX only has a specific airlines landing arriving there. then the parking spot in the international terminal can be setup to only have specific parking codes. And if none of them would have the parking codes used by the Air France livery, the sim will not render the livery to be put in those parking spots.

I think the sim already has this capability. It’s just that because the parking spots themselves are not populated to have the specific parking codes, the sim interprets it as empty and just choose randomly from your collection.

I agree. I still don’t get why the big deal with getting airline permission to facilitate a better AI environment. Hear me out - I study law, so this isn’t some jackwagon making stuff up…

  1. Did FLAI and freeware developers like that have to get permission? Methinks no, because they weren’t profiting from it, plus logically, do you see them reaching out to the entire world of airlines prior to developing? Frankly, I doubt it.

  2. While Asobo can’t profit from using an airline’s logo without express permission, there’s NOTHING wrong with creating the ability for USERS to populate their own models featuring airline logos in the sim for free.

All they have to do, as you say, is code the airport parking correctly to reference the Aircraft.cfg file for Parking Code; then create a separate user-accessible folder for .AI models (or use the existing folder); then users can load up any liveries they have that match!

Sure, we’re currently limited on aircraft types, but not painting the ones we have (B787, A320, B748). I would rather see a fake KLM A320 representing a KLM 737 than a yellow/orange/white blobby AirBoeing A3767-50 representing it…just sayin…baby steps.

If Asobo wants to then later go out and develop their own AI models and liveries with airline permission to sell/give/whatever…more power to them (I might even buy them with correct AI traffic packages).
