Did Microsft intentionally leave out Dallas in order to sell future DLC in MarketPlace?

Dallas was probably only in the earlier MS flight sims because this product started in the 80s and Dallas was known worldwide then thanks to the soap opera. Now it’s just another city among 1000s in the world. I’ve not been to Texas but I’ve heard that Houston and Austin are much more important cities anyway - how do they look? Anyway my own hometown is all autógen but I’m not complaining - happy to explore other cities that aren’t - fave at the moment is Madrid

I‘m pretty sure there will be powerlines, radio towers, churches and the likes. MS already has the data. I guess this just wasn‘t a priority. But I see no reason why we shouldn‘t get such structures in the future.

It is possible Asobo/MS left cities out to sell content on Marketplace. Just like EA Games left out toddlers and pools with the intend to sell them in an expansion-pack, but got backlash, so they patched it into the basegame for free. Just like it should be.

We will never know. We can only see patterns and guess.

Yes, we don’t know, but I doubt it. The highly detailed photogrammetry cities are fed in from Bing Maps and so far every single 3d city from Bing Maps is present in the sim. Were there 3d cities in Bing Maps that aren’t in the sim, I’d be more sceptical, but it’s not the case. Also, the devs have said that they‘ve planned some regional updates including POIs, but that they will be free. So I don‘t see any indication of such payware DLCs by MS/Asobo. As for airports, this might be a different story. I could imagine that they deliberately left some of the more popular ones to 3rd party devs, but that‘s understandable because it‘s just impossible for them to handcraft every bigger airport. They have more important things on their hands and they‘ve always said they‘d leave the detailed airports to TPD.

I can see that the OP has yet to fly over DC at all… if you want a laugh, look at the Washington Monument, White House and Capitol buildings… These might get fixed before anything in Texas

In some ways, it’s a reasonable decision to let the AI loose and see what it can do. If any of the solutions are good, or even acceptable, that reduces the number of cases where you have to step in and develop scenery by hand.

The problem at the moment is the amount of stuff that’s missing or wrong - which makes me think (and of course, plenty of other people think this, too) that the release was premature. My sense, having been on the alpha from the beginning, was that the project was on track for a holiday release, which wouldn’t have been perfect, but it would have gotten a lot closer. I think somebody up the line, at a business unit or division level, decided for whatever reason to book the revenue now. The result is a much higher ratio of wrong to right objects. I suspect that by the end of the year it’ll look better - not problem-free by any means, but on the way to looking the way it should.

If you go to your profile, then navigate to Preferences>Users, there’s an Ignore list that you can populate.

This is just objectively wrong. The Dallas/Fort Worth metro area is the fourth largest in the entire US, and since 2016 it has been number one in year-over-year growth in the US. Regardless of what you think about OP, he does have a point. The Dallas area is a lot more prominent than you seem to think that it is.

I think the real original Dallas is modelled quite well.

This thread has certainly proved to be an opportunity for many views to be expressed. It has also generated some discomfort among some in the community.

The orginal poster’s original question seems to have been adequately explored and unless the OP considers it worthwhile for this thread to continue I will close it for now.

To the OP, feel free to PM @moderators if you would like this thread re-opened and your reasons for this.

Onward and upward.
