Did performance in vr improve in 2022?

I must say I love flying in vr but I have not had patience to fiddle with settings for hours and hours. I watch the developer updates and it was stated that vr was really going to improve by the end of this year… so I held off flying until I get a 4090 and more improvements happen. My experience w 3090 is often choppy and lowish frame rate with my g2 and just not great experience.
Do all of you see a lot of vr improvements that happened this year while staying on the same graphics card?
I don’t know if I just need to wait for the game to mature, or if they will never optimize for vr and I should just try to jump in and lower my expectations of how smooth and crisp it is.

They have done a wonderful job with the flight sim game but VERY little for VR. There are moments when I am in VR and coming through the clouds, I get the feeling as if I am really flying. (Crazy I know ) It’s sad MSFS doesn’t put more of an effort into VR because I think that is where MSFS 2020 would really shine. To be in the wonderful world they have gave us to fly in.

Hi,

For me VR has improved dramatically with the help of OpenXR toolkit and PimaxXR. It allows me to enjoy MSFS in VR with my Pimax 8kx at around 35 to 50 fps and smooth performance. Something I would never achieve in X-Plane 11 or X-Plane 12.
Really grateful to MBuccia for his efforts in developing these.

Yes that does help a lot and I am grateful for OpenXR. But the core of MSFS for VR needs work. Sometimes I feel I am back to FSX with all the add- ons, tweaking that we have to do to get it working right.

Ok I’ll try to delve back in and do xr toolkit. I have openxr runtime of course but have never tried toolkit. With many people often posting problems with performance of high end systems but some claiming great results it’s hard to know if you just haven’t tweaked things right or you have some odd hardware error or if you’re getting the performance you should be.

I really think that Asobo and Microsoft has to work harder in the VR part and dx12. They also should support in-game FFR as we see it improves performance. I already own a 4090.
