Hard to understand. Are you reporting two issues in the same ticket? One being: It was supposed to be a night mission but it was daytime? Cool, a bug.

And two: You saying that you got points lost because you didn’t use landing lights during the day? Seeing aircraft the world over do in fact use landing lights at landing and takeoff or below 10,000 feet day or night. This is not an issue.

Sorry. I was responding to the coaching from the sim after I completed. It said something like, “failed to use landing lights in a nighttime flight”. I’m not a pilot so I’m not familiar with real world requirements but to clarify my report, I’d say there was maybe only one issue: Based on what you said, then the language of the coaching should say, “failed to use landing lights below 10,000 feet.” The night flight thing was a red herring. It was my first career mission flight, it was supposed to be a daytime flight and it was daytime so the sim got that correct. I was thrown off by the coaching after I got dinged.

Can provide some evidence

What I’m thinking is happening; MSFS2024 is logging flight time as UTC and not local time (notice how for the most recent flight, local time is ~15:00 EDT but 20:00 UTC)
Even though local sunset is ~16:15 EDT, the sim logged 3 landings as ‘night time landings’ (not sure why it didn’t log 3 take-offs; 1 from CYJN, and 1 from CYHU, the other take-off was after an off-field landing, practicing a loss of power condition)

edit: realized I denoted EDT and not EST (Corrected for the 1 hr difference)

Same thing happened to me as well in the Cessna 172 on PC. Got the warning for “No Landing lights for night takeoff/landing” during a 1pm flight. Furthermore, if you do turn on the landing lights before takeoff, then skip to landing, they will switch off by themselves. Therefore, you will only have a few seconds at most to turn them back on before you get another penalty.

Had same issue randomly on flights that have bright sunshine.

Also have the issue with the lights getting turned off when you use skip to descent and getting penalised.

Same here, first two day flights in Hawaii dinged both times in broad daylight.

Is this perhaps an issue if you don’t have your night currency? For example, if you don’t have it, and start a flight that would be otherwise at night, in the sim it would be broad daylight, but maybe it doesn’t recognize that.

This would make sense. I think the flights are being flagged as IFR rather than VFR.
