Is there a way to disable the check for updates for every start? For they started to take several minutes, which is rather long just for sending a request to the server if a new update is available.
Updates are mandatory now. Everyone has to take them in. When you would disable the check, result will be that the session you start wonāt runā¦ because the server does not support your version anymore. Of course you would check manually for updates (?), but that will cost at least the amount of time it takes MSFS to run the check at startup. It is a safe and easy procedure. Maybe future updates - at some point - would become optional. Then youāll get a checkbox saying ādonāt check updates at startupā. We are within a year of release, itās to early to have that.
As long as it takes just a few seconds Iām ok with it, but today it took more than 5 minutes, and after a CTD again more than 5 minutes. And after that, thereās also the ānormalā startup, whicht also lasts for several minutes. So as long as itās broken, Iād really like to disable it. Updates are every month or so and I usually know when they come in.
Itās not broken, takes most folk a few seconds. Sounds like youāve got bigger problemsā¦
There is no option in the cfgās to switch off the update check, and people did research in the cfg-files for that, sometimes updates went really bad and people posted complaints. Or they ask just before a new update, when MSFS was running fine and they did not want to risk a good config. Answer is ānoā as long as updates are mandatory. Some way, they have to assure all MSFS simmers run the same version.
So your motivation to want no updates (or update check) is clear and different, but it will get the same answerā¦
This update check is slow indeed. Iāve also seen what you describeā¦ even 10 minutes. I let it run and then it gave āInsert the Flight Simulator diskā, I closed the program, two hours later I had a perfect flight, with PG and Bing on. What happens with cloud programs like MSFS also depends on the server connection. On your sideā¦ or theirsā¦ when timeouts appear in software, you can easily get 2 minutes wait time for a single request, or 6 minutes for 3 requests, etcetera. That is how internet communication behaves, when there are e.g. routing issuesā¦
Yeah. It also started to CTD with CoherentUIGT.dll today, which it never did before. Fun times.
The more add-ons you have in your Community folder, the longer the update check takes. The Community folder used to be enumerated right at launch, itās now done during the update check - at least thatās my experience.
Clear out all your add-ons and see how long the update check takes then.
By the way you can see, whether a long Update stage is caused by communication, or the rest of the initialisation of MSFS. Look at the spinning white ring. While it turns, MSFS is waiting for a server response. When it keeps turning, there is no response, or you have an internet issue. When the spinner has gone stationaryā¦ and then you wait and waitā¦ Iād look for other issues ! Check driver, check overclockingā¦ always switch off overclocking when you have an issue.
Oh how I wishā¦
I moved the community folder and the Rolling Cache File, didnāt help.
Well, it was worth a try, as others have said it might be a communication issue. Hope you manage to get to the bottom of it.
You āMovedā the Community Folder and Rolling Cache File ?
Oh Myā¦where did you move them ?
If I have difficulty, I normally āEmptyā the community folder and āDeleteā any rolling cache file content.
I moved it to a temporary location so that I can put it back quickly. So itās the same as āemptyā and ādeleteā, just with a shortcut back to normality.
In fact, the Rolling Cache file I did delete in the end because it created a new one.
Thereās this topic about that DLL, which does have a solution ! but I donāt know if it is applicableā¦
ā¦ also meridianowl is rightā¦ you can move Community, but youād better delete (or create) your cache with the General Options / Data, that is: in game. See what happens if you put your cache directory back where it belongs (?)
Yeah, but I didnāt have another 10 minutes to start the game, delete the cache from there, close it to start it for another 10 minutesā¦
Did you try that tip in the other topic ? This solved it for him, he posted his own solution,
Yes, I already had a pagefile,
This is happening for me as well. No idea what to do beyond whatās been suggested here.
This CoherentUIGT.dll error may have been an issue from the startā¦ hereās another one, even jummivana thanked for the solutionā¦ and it may be a different one, canāt seeā¦ 4 happy people back in augā2020

Router reboot did it.
