Disappointed "YES"

I am rather disappointed with FS2020. I guess I had high hopes when the release was first announced and I waited months to become an Alpha tester. I am a serious simmer and have built my own cockpit using FSUIPC/ Linda/ Mobiflight as well as using GoFlight devices for autopilot etc. I am sure things will improve but I don’t think the simulator can at its current stage compete with other sims except maybe for improved graphics. For us serious simmers this looks just like a hyped up game and not a developed simulator. I also hope that PMDG release their aircraft as soon as possible as the current airliners included in the sim are just a joke.

The attention to scenery complexity is good. I am currently getting great results using ORBX in FSX and Prep3D but to a serious simmer the performance, FPS and consistency is far more important. The scenery only plays a major part when we take off and land. The rest of the time we fly at high altitude anyway.

I have I7-9700 4.7mhz 32gig Ram 3200mhz - RTX 2070- C49RG90 ultra wide monitor Resolution: 5120 x 1440 QHD and 100 mbs broadband and 2 additional smaller monitors for instrument displays. I can’t figure out how people are claiming they are getting 60FPS on 4K monitors. Well they must be using SuperComputers which most of us can not afford.

I have purchased the Delux edition but I only get 45/FPS on Low Settings 28/FPS on Medium 24/FPS on High and 15/FPS on Ultra whereas on P3D and FSX using absolutely everything …Orbx…ActiveSky…GroundServices…as well as attachments of additional devices etc I get between 35 to 45FPS on congested areas and 60 to 80FPS at high altitude or less congested sceneries.

I am just wondering how this system will cope when developers add their products. Orbx…PMDG … and more in the future which will probably reduce the current performance even further.

Finally, the installation of the sim takes a long time….it takes long to load once installed…the interface to setup devices like joystick etc is difficult and confusing…the camera settings is even more confusing…there is no replay function to review how you performed and there is no way one can undock instruments to be used on external monitors.

Apart from this its just a game and it will get better in time hopefully but until then I will keep this sim in the background and continue to fly using FSX and P3D.

Have fun! I totally understand your point. But please don’t forget even FSX or XP or P3D wasn’t build in a year.
It’s a great platform and I’m sure it will be a great Sim, no wait, it’s already a great sim. And all the bugs will be fixed as they were fixed in other Sims too.
I was simming FSX for over 15 years and I stopped it cause there was too much bugs and things that didn’t worked well. Now as I saw MSFS I’m back and I’m happy to Sim again and go the way you’ve walked with P3D.
Justbge Patient, it will be much greater.

I agree with you 100%. I have been simming since Microsoft first Flight Sim. With all the Hype I was expecting too much. Hopefully in a years time my opinion will change

Pull it back to 1440p. Made a huge difference on my setup (similar to yours but 16gb ram).

I’m puzzled as well. i77820X/1080Ti/32G/SSD all stock clock rates here and at 1080p high settings I get 20-22fps in the airliners and 50-60fps in external view - doesn’t drop much from these figures in even the biggest airports.

I notice that one of my cores is constantly at 100% and the other 5 are all sitting around 30% while my GPU rarely goes above 60%.

I suspect that the engine is severely CPU bound and the people getting big frame rates have mega CPUs with mega overclocking.

My monitors resolution is 5120 x 1440 120hz 49 inch ultra wide. I paid over £1000 to get a high resolution settings

Rome wasn’t built in a day, be patient.

I agree

Well big difference from a 2070 and a 2080ti 11gb OC gpu like I have lol. Also an i7 9700 vs my i9 9900KF 3.6 boost 5.0ghz 8 core. I can run this game on max settings. Also dont run your resolution on 5120x1440. For me it looked horrible and pixelated, didnt test the FPS on that resolution but I assume it’d be worse lol. I run it on 3840x1080 on my 48" and it runs smooooooth 40 - 60 FPS (From just how it looks, never did a FPS test) with the occasional half second glitch from new scenery from the streaming I assume. The biggest con of this game is the lack of AP, IFR etc fuctionality but it will come. This game has astronomical potential and looks sooo much better than FSX and runs way smoother… and its not even close. I’ll never go back to FSX and I put at least 5000 hours in that game. Flying around a 3D city in this game with max settings is like eye candy. So nice to look at and make approaches to, for example, LOWI with the ORBX add on…omg

Thank you. I will try to reduce the monitor settings and see how it goes. I just managed to install the Delux version after 5 hours of download. I started at EGLL London Heathrow twice. The system crashed on me twice based on the default system. Funny

Well, this is an excellent platform, and once all bugs are polished (mainly autopilot) it will have no rival.
The other sims you said it yourself, they need to be modded, otherwise you won´t be able to use it.

In order to come closer you need to have Activesky+REX+UT2+ORTHO+3rd party planes among other mods like AIRAC updates
With MSFS2020 you only need to get 3rd party planes and better airports.

I hope so… As mentioned I am more interested in the reality of the flight rather than how things look…But you are right. Thank you

Personally have not had a better experience than with FS2020 at launch, i find the performance paired with fidelity to be astounding.

I just managed to set up a flight on the 787 from Heathrow after 3 failed attempts. I must admit that since the Alpha release the version bought is far smoother and better graphics but the framerate still remains at 23 to 25 which is frustrating

You’re Fully Right…

Same issue here but worse! i am getting 7-14 FPS on medium with a 2080 Super, 32GB DDR4 3200 ram, and a i7 8700 12-core processor. I was on the Alpha and it ran a lot better on ultra. Even in the middle of the desert away from cities and not on multiplayer with traffic turned of, I get less than 10 FPS. My internet connection is 800MB and is only hitting about 20%. CPU is 28-40%, RAM is 42-50%, and GPU is 75-95%…Im pretty disappointed right now…

You have a better system than me. This is why I am so confused as how people claim to get 60FPS on 4K monitors. I just loaded my simulator and flew the 787. It was rather smooth and far better than the Alpha but the framerate was around 20 to 24. Something is wrong and I can not figure what !!!

When I installed the Sim I just went on the default settings as recommended by the system. Made no changes to anything . It suggested WINDOWS MODE and HIGH Settings. It looks good and rather smooth but the framerate is still an issue

I have I9-9900K
32gb 3200mhz Corsair Vengence Ram
Asus1080 Rog Strix 8gb GPU

In General Aviation Aricraft with High End Settings I take 45-60 fps. With Airliners ohh its really bad I take 20-30fps… and not smooth too much. Itry Low end and High End settings FPS are same for me. If the PMDG, Aerosoft or Fslabs make these like that (I dont think so they do this with this condition) its really bad and cant flyble with these fps. Because Not only we will add Add-on Aircrafts… We will add too many secenery may be some ai aircraft packs… I have Premium Deluxe apck of this Simulator but they have to fix and I trust they will be fix it. Everbody talk with DX11 file Prepar3d V5 have a DX12 but they make too many crash right now due to GPU Vram usage. If MSFS Team make it good fix it with that I think everything is going fine and we will start fly in VATSIM or Ivao with this sim.(Im VATSIM Member). And Aircraft doors are have to open with Shift+E key combination too

I flew and have FS98,FS2000,FS2002, FS2004 and FSX.

Why don’t you try tweaking some of the graphics settings? Play around with things, see what happens! Your FSX likely runs so good because so much time has been put in by the community on configuration tweaks and tricks to get everything out of the old engine that you can.

Give it time. Things will only get better for FS2020.
