Do Consoles Have the Same Capability as a Lower-end Computer?

Hello and please excuse my ignorance, I know zero about gaming consoles.

I have a lower end computer with higher end peripherals that I connect with a powered hub. Do consoles have that same capability? If msfs is pushing towards console usage and peripherals are not supported, then I would think that would be a huge concern for the peripherals makers.

This also makes me question which direction to go when I do upgrade, console for hundreds of dollars or computer for thousands.

I would appreciate your thoughts, thanks.

Sorry but I am in no position to give anyone a solid advice on doing this or that, it’s only my very personal thoughts as to where the ms flight simulation is currently heading to, as a simmer for over 25 years now. They might all be wrong.

It’s just an obvious trend that the market is shifting from hard-core pc simulation to low-cost, plug-and-play type of console gaming / simming. It doesn’t mean ms pc simulation will ever end, it’s just a market share move, imho, so that each time we’ll most likely expect lower quality graphics than before, we have seen it on aerials tile resolution, terrain and object LOD, hence object pop in, etc with SU16 one more time.

Luckily there is another flight sim out there that is not pushing consoles and hand held devices. And the maker actually listens to it’s customers. I have been a supporter of MS flight sims since the very first one. But I find the route MSFS 2020 is going towards consoles troubling. I have not purchased MSFS 2024 and have no intentions of doing so. Before SU 16 I was very happy with 2020. But I have only flown 2020 one time since SU16 dropped. I was so disappointed in what I saw I didn’t use it again. I sure hope MS/Asobo change direction and show the PC some love.

Thank you for your thoughts, appreciate it..

I’m still enjoying my Rtx 3060 with fs 2020 and will hang on to it for as long as it’s viable. Maybe by that time we will have a clearer picture of which direction things are going.

The XBox X is broadly comparable to a PC with a Ryzen 7 3700X (or Intel 12400F) CPU, and an NVIDIA RTX 3060 Ti (or AMD RX 6700 XT) GPU.

So yes, similar to a lower-mid PC. Your higher end peripherals though will likely not be compatible with XBox, so sticking with a PC is the best way to go. While MS might be making some features of the sim more attractive to console users, I can’t see they would abandon PC gamers altogether.
