How do you stop world updates, so it only updates the simulator itself.
This is because I only fly in the UK and am not interested in the rest of the world at this present time.
Also I have to wait a long time for it to finish downloading and the updates take alot of space on my hard drive which could be used for something else, which I need.
For example you don’t have this on X plane and P3D.
just dont buy the free stuff, but you cannot refuse the base updates.
it is also possibl;e to remove airports installed if they are not in your flying area.
you miss out a lot, some places are so beautifull with trop[icla watermasks, i cant understand you dont wanna fly there.
Hi there,
You posted in the SDK General category instead of Community General Discussion. I have moved your post.
As @wcoesel said, you actually don’t get the scenery by default. You have to get them from the Marketplace after your machine has been updated.
World updates also come with changes to the base sim (e.g. bug fixes). Those are what you are downloading.
Regarding hard drive space, I would also say that a lot of files get replaced with every update. So a 10 GB update does not imply that you lost 10 GB on your drive.
You can always “buy” it, no problem. I’ve got WU Japan still in my Content manager as “uninstalled” because I never fly in Japan.. No diskspace is wasted as long as you don’t install stuff. Don’t click the install button you won’t get it.. that counts for aircraft updates too, but I would advise to always install these. Sometimes they change things in the flight model or airflow model, the aircraft configs should get updated. Extra scenery like WU bundles have always been optional.
Yes but its annoying when I am loading the sim and world updates are displayed. I am sure the Sim takes longer to start because of these/displaying information I am not interested in.
Yes I will remove all the free stuff or anything else I can find that does not pertain to the country I want to fly in.
I probably will explore the rest of the world one day (I know there are some nice places) but I would rather do it when I am ready, rather than having them thrown at me.
I know the base sim needs it updates and I value them like everyone else. I also know updates are bug fixes etc and replace old code so its not as case of the sim getting bigger and bigger.
Having said that these world updates take up more space than I would like. Not that I am running out of space, I would use it for something I need.
You don’t get the world update contents “thrown” at you.
You decide when you download the optional packages.
There are mandatory changes to the existing packages though which are updated/installed whether you like it or not. Since this is a cloud based simulator, you cannot skip these. In most cases they replace an earlier version.
Actually the sim got smaller on the hard drive since the intial release as far as I know.
