Hi,
do you guys currently use Rolling Cache, and if yes, at which size did you set your rolling cache file?
I use it, 64GB.

Yeah, standard at 60 here, using photogrammetry on in the sim.
128GB (PC spec in profile)
256GB and it has always been very smooth.
I recently increased mine from 128GB to 200GB.
I have no idea whether that helped anything, although I will say that my sim is running more smoothly than it ever has.
I did it because the deep dive @nenenui did suggested that 200GB was a good upper limit. But even he/she wasn’t sure.
I still have mine off. Turned it off to reduce stutters, which was very effective. Have not tried turning it back on yet.
128gb here. Never tried it off, Hummm, ![]()
Xbox X, 64 GB. I’ve tried everything up to 512 GB, but don’t really notice any difference past 32 GB. Somebody here did an analysis once and said that anything larger than 128 GB might be detrimental due to the inability to address it that large.

Having rolling cache turned off to reduce stutters (unless you have a hopelessly slow drive you have your rolling cache installed to) seems counter-intuitive to me. The whole idea of the cache is for much faster loading of surrounding scenery you have flown in before than what you can get with streaming. If RC causes stuttering, I’d seriously look at the speed of your drive.
That said, the FIRST time you fly into a new area, you may have some stutters as your cache is built for the area.
I think very few people have the cache off completely. It’s not even possible without a semi-“hack” procedure AFAIK.
My personal experience is that if you have a fast (>1 Gbps) connection with low latency and are not too far from a Microsoft server, it is hardly worth activating.
Never used it, never looked back.
I use 32Gb RC on Xbox series X with a 70mb internet download speed. On early builds of 24, this was the minimum I needed to get airliners to work without stuttering so have just left it at that
It’s active by default and not exactly standard to deactivate it though? Meaning, it’s not even possible “officially”.
Or are you talking about 2020?
I have it set to 1 Gb.
OK, so even you have activated it ![]()
I set my rolling cache up in a strategic way i use an second disk station
and created add a map structure with the continents on it
In these maps i have created my rolling cache files at the size of 32.5 GB
If i switch continent than i select the cache map i created accordingly.
It keeps the files relatively small and fast accessible.
Everytime i set my rolling cache to something other than 16GB, it resets back after couple of days….
I wish I could disable it completely. I have Gb internet and I virtually never fly in the same area repeatedly, so I see no benefit in having it. Just having it small makes no difference: I do not want my PC to waste resources to write useless stuff to disk. I had it disabled in 2020 and that was just fine for me.
Apparently you can disable it as described here:

Haven’t tried though.
